About me
What does it mean to be human? Why do I not fit in with other humans? What makes me tick?Who am I? What is my purpose? How do we understand each other?
These are all common questions my clients often voice...
As humans we are dependent on satisfying relationships with others for our emotional well-being. Sometimes this has broken down, or never existed, leaving the person feeling emotionally damaged with a feeling of confusion or uncertainty about who they are and how to 'be' with other humans.
I am dedicated to working with people experiencing psychological disturbance and relational pain to gain a deeper understanding of how they relate to themselves, others, and the world around them.
My central ethos is one of empowerment of individuals and groups to move away from destructive, distressing ways of thinking, relating and behaving, and move towards development of core psychological strength, self-knowledge and growth.
I am enthusiastic in working with adults and young adults suffering with complex emotional needs and relational difficulties as well as providing support and education for family and training and supervision for professionals.
I am a UKCP registered psychotherapist and a qualified mental health nurse and I have worked within mental health services for over 30years and have specialised in providing psychotheraputic work for individuals with complex emotional needs for the last 22 years. I work privately (www.sarasanderstherapy.com) and also work in the NHS as clinical specialist and clinical lead for the high intensity tier of the personality disorder service in Oxfordshire.
I work with all levels of emotional distress and trauma and offer individual, couple and group therapy as well as online therapy. Please see my website for more information.
I spent over a decade working in acute psychiatry and eating disorders prior to specialising in psychotherapy and I am a trainer and consultant for mental health professionals.
I am the co-founder of the leading specialist carers service for those with loved ones enduring complex emotional needs and/or a diagnosis of personality disorder. This has involved the design and delivery of education and support for parents, partners, siblings, children, and others thrust into a support role.
I work with a relational model of psychotherapy and have an MSc in Transactional Analysis Psychotherapy. This model is integrative and humanistic in its origins and is concerned with relating to my clients on an authentic, human level. I also have additional training in focused trauma therapies such as EMDR, NET and CPT. I offer a range of therapy and self-growth options.

school Registered / Accredited
Being registered/accredited with a professional body means an individual must have achieved a substantial level of training and experience approved by their member organisation.
The UK Council for Psychotherapy (UKCP) is a leading professional body for the education, training and regulation of psychotherapists and psychotherapeutic counsellors. Its register is accredited by the government's Professional Standards Authority.
As part of its commitment to protect the public, it works to improve access to psychotherapy, to support and disseminate research, to improve standards and to respond effectively to complaints against its members.
UKCP standards cover the range of different psychotherapies. Registration is obtained by training or accrediting with one of its member organisations, or by holding a European Certificate in Psychotherapy. Accredited by the Professional Standards Authority.
Accredited register membership
The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).
This therapist has indicated that they belong to an Accredited Register.
