About me

My name is Sara and I am the person behind Cridhe Counselling. The word Cridhe (pronounced “cree-uh”) is a Scottish Gaelic word which means “Heart, Core and Courage”.

I am an integrative counsellor which means I use a range of techniques and resources from different counselling models and adapt them to suit you.

Going to counselling can feel like a huge step. I am a skilled counsellor who works with clients to build a relationship where trust and a sense of safety is key.

We will work at your pace and ensure that you can get to the core of your concerns, in a way that feels manageable and helps you to move forward in life at the end of our time together.

Training, qualifications & experience

I work with clients from age 16 upwards. I have a strong focus on working with women of all ages and stages of life who have reached a point where they need a confidential space to talk, process and find their way forward into the next season of their life.

I work with people who lie awake at night worrying, who feel overwhelmed by work, relationships with others, everyday tasks, or who feel they have lost touch with who they are and who feel that the past is affecting their present.

My work with teens has had a focus on neurodivergence, transitions in education, exam anxiety, family breakdown, friendships and relationships.

I have a bachelor’s degree in education (1998) and started my journey to becoming a counsellor in 2017 before completing a postgraduate diploma in Integrative Counselling in 2025. I am also trained in teaching Mindfulness to children and adults.

I am registered as a counsellor with the British Association of Counsellors and Psychotherapists.

I have worked as a volunteer counsellor in schools since 2017 and with adults since 2024.

I draw on my experience working in education for 28 years, where I have focused on working with young people and their families in pastoral roles since 2017.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred). Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA). Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision. Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training. All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

Accredited register membership

British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy
Accredited Register Scheme

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

This therapist has indicated that they belong to an Accredited Register.

Wheelchair user access
Wheelchair user access

Wheelchair-accessible premises should have step-free access for wheelchair users and individuals who are unable to climb stairs. If a Counsellor's premises aren't step-free, they may offer alternative services such as telephone/web-based appointments, home visits, or meeting clients in different location, so you can choose the option that suits you best.

You can contact the Counsellor to discuss the options available.

Under the Equality Act 2010 service providers have a duty to make reasonable adjustments to ensure that individuals with disabilities can access their service. You can read more about reasonable adjustments to help you to access services on the CAB website.

The clinic has excellent public transport links (Lothian Buses 24, 9 and 5) and nearby parking make the clinic convenient and easily accessible. The counselling room is on street level and is accessible for anyone who would find stairs challenging.
