About me
Do you need a safe, confidential space to explore what is troubling you? I understand how difficult it can be to share struggles with another safely and openly.
It can be difficult to grasp the impact of childhood or life events in isolation. Sometimes our reactions are borne out of previous pain. We sometimes need to be truly heard, understood and accepted.
I can support you to explore with kindness what has affected you or another. Counselling can bring insight, a way forward, bringing hope, clarity and healing. As the relationship of trust grows, a space is created for healing and processing difficult experiences. There is no shame in admitting some professional support might be helpful. I have found it often creates shifts, gradually transforming what was dark into a new light.
I am an integrative counsellor which means that I draw from several counselling models to support you on the best way possible.
I work online UK wide and in person in Edinburgh. My working hours are weekday evenings and all day on Thursdays. I offer a free initial 15 minute chat to give clients the opportunity to establish if I am a good fit and to determine if I am the most suitable counsellor for you. We will then meet for a fuller initial appointment, making a contract for our work which covers data protection, fees and confidentiality. We will then usually meet weekly or fortnightly at the same day and time. Each session is 50 minutes. We will review our work regularly and you are free to end counselling at any point.
Training, qualifications & experience
I have a Diploma in Counselling and am trained in online and telephone counselling, engaging in regular Continuous Professional Development including in bereavement, trauma and autism.
I trained and worked as a nurse and in health and social care for many years and come with a wealth of life experience.
Member organisations
BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred). Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA). Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision. Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training. All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.
The Association of Christians in Counselling and Linked Professions (ACC) is a Christian professional membership organisation for those involved in counselling/psychotherapy and linked professions, i.e. pastoral care, coaching and spiritual direction, in the UK. The organisation is made up of various different membership categories, including Counsellor and Accredited, and requires all members working as counsellors to undertake Continuous Professional Development on a regular basis.
Accredited register membership
The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).
This therapist has indicated that they belong to an Accredited Register.
