About me
I am an integrative humanistic counsellor with over 8 years' experience in practice. In my work, I started off working with substance use, then went on to have a long career working with the LGBTQ+ community across Wales, helping develop then managing one of Wales's only LGBTQ+ Counselling services.
In my private practice, I have worked with organisations dealing with trauma, suicidal ideation, and self-harm, as well as working with young people with charities based in Cardiff.
Training, qualifications & experience
I have a BA (Hons) degree in Humanistic Counselling Practice.
My experience has been working with clients with issues such as:
- Processing past and current issues surrounding trauma.
- Working with LGBTQ+ clients to process trauma and navigate the ever-changing social climate to try and build resilience and create euphoria, as well as social connection and reduced isolation.
- I am neurodiverse and have many years of experience in working with neurodiversity, specifically surrounding trauma. When working with this client group, I try to draw out the interests of clients and factor them into how I deliver therapy in order to enhance engagement and investment in therapy. I also try to explore the best ways of communicating and adapt this in my approach.
- Working with clients in the general community as well as LGBTQ+ on issues surrounding Domestic Abuse.
- Through my work within LGBTQ+ charities, I have built many professional connections within the community, further enhancing my ability to signpost clients to events and groups.
Member organisations
BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred). Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA). Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision. Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training. All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.
Accredited register membership
The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).
