About me

Hello, I’m Sally.

I am a qualified art therapist registered with the HCPC who uses creativity alongside talking in my sessions. I also have an MSc in Creative Writing for Therapeutic Purposes and am experienced in using creative writing to help people express themselves.

Clients can choose to work with paint, clay, drawing, and creative writing as gentle ways to find strength and resilience. It doesn't matter if you have no experience of art or writing as you will be gently guided at your own pace and I can work alongside you if necessary. You get to choose the materials you work with during the session from a wide range of resources, so there is something for everybody.

My approach is warm, thoughtful, and non-judgmental and I believe creativity is open to all of us.

Training, qualifications & experience

My background is in fine art and creative writing, and I hold several postgraduate qualifications across art, writing, and psychotherapy. Together, these inform an approach that is imaginative, down-to-earth, and accessible, grounded in the belief that creativity can support wellbeing, reflection, and connection.

I work freelance for charities, including brain injury, arts, and peace charities, as well as community centres and counselling charities.  I facilitate creative writing and art groups for wellbeing, both for charities and myself and have previously taught creativity-focused courses in both university and community settings.

As a practising artist and writer, I have a deep understanding of what it means to live a creative life, including its challenges, and how creativity can help us make sense of our experiences.

I work with a range of people, including those affected by anxiety, low mood, grief, brain injury, neurodivergence, and times of feeling stuck or uncertain. I also have experience supporting people affected by trauma, addiction, and complex life circumstances.

HCPC
Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC)

The HCPC are an independent, UK-wide health regulator. They set standards of professional training, performance and conduct for 16 professions.

They keep a register of health professionals who meet their standards, and they take action if registered health professionals fall below those standards. They were created by a piece of legislation called the Health Professions Order 2001.

Registration means that a health professional meets national standards for their professional training, performance and conduct.
