About me

I'm an experienced counsellor and accredited member of the BACP offering both individual and couples counselling from a relaxed setting in central Norwich. There is no limit to what can be discussed. I aim to support you with whatever mental health and emotional difficulties you are facing - anxiety, depression, relationship and family issues, low self-esteem, life changes or other challenges. In a warm, safe space we can explore what brings you here.

What will happen in the counselling sessions?

I will listen attentively as you talk at a pace that suits you. Your best interests will be at the heart of the work. The therapeutic relationship that develops will enable you to explore your experiences, personality and ways in which you relate to others. I will incorporate a range of different approaches. You can ask questions at any point and we will regularly review how the counselling is going.

How does it work?

Counselling can help towards an increased sense of wellbeing and a more fulfilling life, in a number of ways:

  • by feeling truly heard you may start to manage feelings differently
  • by gaining tools you may feel more in control of overwhelming emotions
  • by increasing self-awareness you may start to live more in the present rather than dwelling on the past or being fearful of the future
  • by having support you may be able to make changes where things feel unsatisfactory

It's important you find the right counsellor to work with

I understand that it may feel daunting to enquire about counselling. Please feel free to get in touch if you have any questions or to book a 50 minute, in-person, exploratory appointment. Do get in touch via Email and I will respond to enquiries Mon-Fri 9-5pm. Fee info can be found at bottom of page.

Training, qualifications & experience

BSc (Hons) Degree Integrative Psychotherapeutic Counselling - Middlesex University (UKCP recognised)

Advanced Diploma Integrative Psychotherapeutic Counselling - Matrix College (UKCP recognised)

Certificate Couples Counselling -  Dr Paul Hitchings (PsychD, CPsychol)

Certificate Embodied Practice - The Grove, London

Accredited Member of the BACP (British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy) which means I have met their higher standard as a competent, ethical and independent practitioner.

My experience includes, though is not limited to, working with:

  • anxiety, depression and other difficulties
  • trauma and PTSD
  • grief, loss and bereavement
  • neurodivergence (ADHD; Autism)
  • physical, emotional and sexual abuse
  • decision-making, change and finding purpose in life

In addition to private practice I have worked for St Barnabas Counselling Centre in Norwich.

Before training to be a counsellor I worked in education. I have a BA (Hons) in English Literature and a PGCE (Secondary English) from the London Institute of Education. I have many years' experience working with students, their families and other agencies.

I have an MA in Creative Writing (UEA) and - if clients are interested - can offer creative ways of working within the therapeutic relationship such as using poems, postcards, figures and other materials. This can feel less confrontational and be a more playful way of working.

Registered / Accredited

Being registered/accredited with a professional body means an individual must have achieved a substantial level of training and experience approved by their member organisation.

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred). Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA). Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision. Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training. All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

Accredited register membership

British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy
Accredited Register Scheme

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

This therapist has indicated that they belong to an Accredited Register.
