About me
I believe that when people connect, change can happen.
I work face to face in centre of York or online across the UK.
If your experiences are weighing on you and you feel working with someone neutral may help I could be a good fit for you. I work in a trauma informed way; treating your past experiences with compassion and care, and together we can work towards how you would like your life to be now; safe and connected.
Maybe life just isn't how you would like it to be and you're trying to make sense of past experiences on your own. I may be able to help.
I work with people who have experienced difficult times in their lives - maybe a single traumatic event or relationship - or an entire childhood. I work with Boarding School survivors, victims of sexual and domestic abuse and those who just want life to improve. I work with talking therapy and creative methods (sand) to support your feelings of safety and connection.
Being alone with difficult thoughts and feelings is exceptionally isolating. I offer a place to begin to connect in a meaningful way that is a first step to healing. Our work models how it may be to begin to connect to others.
I am a tutor on the hugely respected MA Psychotherapy and Counselling at the University of Leeds and enthusiastically support trainee therapists. I hold two places for student counsellors. Please enquire about availability.
Training, qualifications & experience
MA Psychotherapy and Counselling (University of Leeds)
PGCert Counselling and Interpersonal Skills (Leeds Beckett University)
BA (Hons) American Studies and English Literature (Brunel University)
I have an MA in Psychotherapy and Counselling from the University of Leeds and a background in senior management in the cut and thrust world of commercial environments so I understand well the pressure and strains which occur as a result of work based stress. I'm also compassionate and caring and place you at the heart of our work.
I work in a trauma informed way, prioritising safety and the professional integrity of our relationship. Research has indicated time and time again that the success of therapeutic work is based on the quality of the client/therapist relationship.
I adhere to the BACP's ethical framework.
Member organisations
BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred). Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA). Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision. Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training. All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.
Accredited register membership
The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).
This therapist has indicated that they belong to an Accredited Register.

I work with a range of clients across locations in central York and Dringhouses and across the UK online.
I have experience of working with those experiencing depression and anxiety, loss, victims of crime, survivors of domestic and sexual abuse/violence. I have a special interest in Boarding School Survivors and the impact that these interrupted early experiences and relationships have in later life.
