About me

I am a humanistic counsellor and a member of the British Association of Counsellors and Psychotherapists.

Changing things in your life can be very difficult. Carrying worry and concerns is exhausting and just getting through the day can take up all your energy, never-mind trying to change things. I have a  relaxed, supportive and understanding approach. I collaborate with my clients,  working together to help them explore, encouraging self-discovery and personal growth.

Good mental health is vital for all of us and spending committed time focussing on issues that negatively impact our lives can make such an enormous difference. I would be delighted to help share the weight of what is troubling you.

I have two practice locations Horsham and Dorking both offering a relaxing, peaceful and calm space, allowing the client to focus on themselves.

Training, qualifications & experience

Having had a career in commercial property for the last 35 years and raising a family with my husband, I have a lifetime of facing my own personal challenges.

I have a Level 4 Diploma in Humanistic Counselling and have since qualifying worked with children, adults and elderly clients. I currently specialise in adults focussing on general anxiety, depression, familial challenges, work issues and self esteem.

I use a mix of psychological models including Transactional Analysis, Attachment Theory, Gestalt. Adapting the process to each client we may use mind maps, family genograms, videos, book referrals - all aiming to focus the client to understand themselves better, accepting their past and equipping them to make decisions going forward.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred). Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA). Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision. Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training. All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

Accredited register membership

British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy
Accredited Register Scheme

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

This therapist has indicated that they belong to an Accredited Register.

Fees

£35.00 - £45.00

  • Low income

Additional information

I am aware that the cost of counselling can sometimes be prohibitive. If £45 is a challenge for you please reach out and let me know. I do consider concessionary rates for clients who find this difficult.

I believe everyone deserves a chance to be heard and to have the opportunity of the benefits of receiving counselling.

I offer introductory calls and if you are comfortable we would then arrange an assessment. An assessment is usually on-line and gives us an opportunity  to  share information about you and the process of counselling. What is it, how does it work, what does the client do?

When I work

I usually start work after lunch and I am happy to offer early evening sessions.

Further information

So what is next?

  • Send me an email or WhatsApp message and we can start to connect. I will WhatsApp back and organise a brief chat to understand what you are looking for.
  • The starting point is an assessment which is free of charge. This gives clients the space to share their initial thought on why they are seeking counselling.
  • If the assessment session "feels right" for the client and my skills are suitable, we schedule sessions to suit us both
  • The frequency, date and time of the sessions are driven by the client and I endeavour to accommodate what works
  • Sessions are in-person, on-line or on the telephone. They can be weekly or bi-weekly
  • The number of sessions is up to the client but frequently I find medium to long term counselling works the most effectively
