About me

Welcome to you and to whatever it is that is troubling you. Please take your time and have a look at my profile here and around my website at www.oakflower.co.uk. If you feel I may be able to help, then I will be very happy to talk to you.

Maybe life feels just too difficult right now? Are you grieving, highly anxious, depressed or suffering in some other way? Are you in need of someone to listen deeply and compassionately? Maybe you have a particular issue in mind, or perhaps things are not that clear.

In therapy with me, you will have my wholehearted support in finding tools, resources and confidence to deal with your difficulties.

I offer you:

Caring, perceptive, deep listening and acceptance. A welcome to you and all that you may be experiencing. I strive to help the complex feel simple. A moment by moment approach which facilitates lasting change.

I offer help if you are in crisis, feeling overwhelmed or stuck, at a loss what to do next, in need of a safe place to talk, have issues that could be helped by having a considerate, professional supporter.

What we will do is explore together, get to know what is actually happening for you, what does and what doesn’t help. New awareness arises, new tools are mastered, new approaches taken. Given space and witnessing, unbearable feelings and thoughts diminish, your problems become ones that you have the resources to deal with.

Over time emerges confidence, willingness and new meaning. Life opens up again.

I work with adults, couples and young people using talking therapy and creative exercises. See my website ww.oakflower.co.uk for more information.

I offer help with:

Anxiety, Trauma, PTSD, Self harming, Depression, Bereavement, Being a Highly Sensitive Person, Relationship issues, Self-esteem, Chronic pain, M.E., Menopause, Addictions: Alcohol addiction, Cannabis dependence, Tobacco dependence, Sugar addiction, Caffeine addiction.

I work in Dartington, Avonwick near Ivybridge, Newton Abbot and on Skype.  Within easy reach of Totnes, Ivybridge, Kingsteignton and South Brent.

Training, qualifications & experience

I hold an Advanced Diploma in Humanistic Counselling with the Dartmoor Centre for Counselling and Psychotherapy. The training was Integrative, which means I have experience of several counselling approaches. The use of the word ‘integrative’ not only describes a fusion of different techniques, it also refers to the integration of all aspects of the personality and needs of the client. This brings awareness of the emotional, rational, behavioural, physiological and spiritual, as they apply to you, delivering a tailor made service to address your evolving needs.

My aim is to give you compassionate support and permission to be fully yourself, however challenging that can be.

Bamboo path

I incorporate elements and techniques from

  • Emotionally Focused Therapy
  • Emotionally Focused Couples Therapy
  • Compassion Focused Therapy
  • ACT (Acceptance and Commitment Therapy)
  • mindfulness practises
  • CBT (Cognitive Behavioural Therapy)
  • NLP (Neurolinguistic programming)
  • trauma therapy
  • psychosynthesis
  • shamanism
  • ritual

I hold full professional liability insurance.

I am committed to ongoing personal and professional development and regularly attend workshops and courses.

I regularly attend both 1:1 and group supervision (as is required by my professional body the BACP) so you can be reassured that I am receiving support in order to fully support you.

I am a Registered Member of the British Association of Counselling and Psychotherapy, MBACP, and abide by its code of ethics.

Member organisations

BACP

British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy

BACP is one of the UK’s largest professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy. Therapists registered with the Association fall into a number of different membership categories such as Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP and Registered Member MBACP (Accred), each standing for different levels of training and experience. MBACP (Accred) and MBACP (Snr Accred) members have achieved a substantial level of training and experience approved by the Association.

Registered members can be found on the BACP Register, which was the first register to achieve Accredited Voluntary Register status issued by the Professional Standards Authority. Individual Members will have completed an appropriate counselling and/or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but will not appear on the BACP Register until they've progressed to Registered Member MBACP status.

All members are bound by a Code of Ethics & Practice and a Complaints Procedure. Accredited by the Professional Standards Authority.

Accredited register membership

British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy

Accredited Register Scheme

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).
