About me
‘I’m fine thanks.’
Do you hear yourself saying that even though you know you’re not fine and don’t feel fine? Maybe you’re struggling with anxiety, you keep getting stuck down rabbit holes of negative thoughts and behaviours that seem to be holding you back, you're still finding it hard to cope with a bereavement, or you’re going through another situation or loss in your life that feels difficult to navigate? I can help you to explore why you might be feeling like you are, at a pace that suits you and in a safe space where you can be yourself and don’t need to wear that mask of being ‘fine’.
I am an integrative therapist, which means that I draw on a number of different ways of working, but I have a particular interest in psychodynamic and attachment-focused approaches. What that means is that I believe the past informs the present and that exploring previous life experiences and relationships can help us to make sense of what is happening for us now and help us to respond differently in the future. Lots of things get buried in our unconscious but still colour the way we see things today. I would like to help you gently discover what they are and to understand the conflicts they are causing for you so you can make positive choices for the future.
As a trained bereavement counsellor, I also have a particular passion for helping people to manage loss.
From my own experience of counselling, I know how important the therapeutic relationship is, so I believe strongly in building a relationship of trust and non-judgement with you so you feel safe to talk about whatever you are struggling with. We’ll focus on what’s important to you and we’ll keep checking in to make sure you’re getting what you need.
Getting the right counsellor for you is important, so I offer a free initial phone call of 15-20 minutes to discuss what you’d like to get from your sessions and for you to see whether you feel I’m the right person for you. Our sessions can then be face-to-face at my counselling rooms in Shrewsbury or online. I also work outdoors (ecotherapy) in the spring/summer, if that’s something you’d like to explore.

Member organisations
BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred). Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA). Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision. Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training. All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.
Accredited register membership
The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).
This therapist has indicated that they belong to an Accredited Register.
