About me
I’m an open, approachable and skilled counsellor offering a warm, calm space in which you can explore difficult feelings and issues without judgement, and at your own pace.
My integrative training means that I draw upon different approaches to counselling, which can be adapted to your needs. My priority when we meet will be to build trust, and I’ll be led by you in terms of the areas in life you’d like to look at. It might be helpful, for example, to explore how your early experiences or past relationships could be impacting those in the present. We may also focus on a specific and current problem or challenge, fear or dilemma. My role isn’t to advise or tell you what to do. Instead, I provide a collaborative and supportive space in which we can find a way through your difficulties together, at a pace that feels right for you.
My natural interest in people has led me to a lifetime of listening. My other career as a writer and published author has brought me into contact with people from all kinds of backgrounds and professions which, I believe, has enriched my perspective and life experience, making me a more effective and broad-minded counsellor.
I have specialist experience of some of the complexities and struggles that can arise around fertility, infertility and adoption, and are areas in which I have a particular interest.
Training, qualifications & experience
I hold an Advanced Diploma in Integrative Counselling and am a registered member of the British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP).
Alongside my private practice, I work with a bereavement charity providing counselling to people living in East London who are struggling with grief and loss.
I’m committed to continually develop my skills and knowledge. I’ve undertaken further training in somatic-informed trauma counselling, exploring the connection between mind and body. I'm a certified infertility specialist with the Foundation of Infant Loss, with whom I've also trained as an infant and pregnancy loss practitioner. I’ve also taken part in professional development courses in couples’ therapy, working while bereaved and neurodiversity.
Member organisations
BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred). Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA). Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision. Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training. All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.
Accredited register membership
The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).
This therapist has indicated that they belong to an Accredited Register.
