About me
I know asking for help with psychotherapy and counselling can feel difficult, and confusing at times - but keep in mind you are worth it, even though you may not feel like you are right now.
I have more than a decade of experience in providing counselling, psychotherapy and coaching in a caring, constructive and confidential way, so you can move forward with your life. I work online (national / international) or face-to-face (in a private, confidential setting in south Manchester near M33 5PP UK).
Many people seek help from me when they are:
- Sick and tired of being sick and tired around life.
- Feeling a loss of sense of self and no/low self esteem or confidence.
- Trapped by problems with alcohol, drugs/substances, compulsive or addictive behaviours (sex, pornography, chemsex, gambling) - I have been sober since 1999.
- Overwhelmed with an acute physical or mental health problem, or living with chronic health problems.
- Finding it difficult to develop relationships, or questioning their sexuality.
- Facing challenges in the work place, or with a career (or lack of).

I provide counselling, psychotherapy and coaching to people from a wide-range of backgrounds, and who have had different experiences in life. Everyone will be met in a kind, compassionate way, and valued as the unique person that they are. Professionally as a psychotherapist and counsellor, I seek to embrace and support differences including those of gender, sexuality, relationship diversity (GSRD), religion, and spiritual (or non) beliefs. I am a gay man, in an interracial civil partnership.

I have worked as a senior lecturer at a university for over 15 years, in a non-related academic role, but with transferrable skills and qualities associated through mentoring and pastoral roles for staff and students.
Member organisations
school Registered / Accredited
Being registered/accredited with a professional body means an individual must have achieved a substantial level of training and experience approved by their member organisation.
The National Counselling and Psychotherapy Society
This Not For Profit association of counsellors and psychotherapists aim to support the counselling profession, members and training organisations.
In 2013 the NCS register was accredited by the Professional Standards Authority under the Accredited Voluntary Register Scheme. Accredited by the Professional Standards Authority.
BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred). Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA). Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision. Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training. All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.
Accredited register membership
The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Areas of counselling I deal with
Other areas of counselling I deal with
I am qualified and have experience in helping adults with a wide range of problems, issues and concerns. Sometimes what needs to be explored isn't even known until the counselling experience starts to unfold what is really 'knocking on the door' for healing and attention. Please do get in touch and ask any questions in relation to this and my work in general.

When I work
My availability changes regularly as people complete their counselling and new people start. I keep the same weekly appointment day and time for each person with some limited flexibility.
Further information
My therapeutic approach integrates evidence-based techniques from the fields of person-centered and compassion-based counselling and psychotherapy. My initial training was in Psychosynthesis and I have gone on to complete further training to enhance my work. I am also a member of 12-step fellowships, including Alcoholics Anonymous, and have worked on national addiction information campaigns.
I provide short-term and open-ended counselling and psychotherapy. I start by offering 6 weekly sessions, and then discuss with people the need, value and possibility for continuing over a longer period of time. People are expected to attend once a week, or in some cases, fortnightly sessions can be arranged at a higher fee.
