About me

Sometimes it is difficult to make sense of our lives; we may not like or understand how we behave or react, but feel unable to change. Sometimes a part of us may feel overwhelmed by life events, feel anxious or depressed, or struggle with difficult relationships

Deciding to meet with a therapist can be an important step in helping you to make changes and move forward in life. A therapist will provide a reflective space, where you can speak your mind and explore your difficulties.

I believe this alliance can help you clarify and understand the patterns that have developed in your life, and explore how past experience may still be affecting you and the way you relate to others. Going through this process can help you have more confidence and choice in the way you live.

My relationship work has the same principles in mind, but is particularly useful in exploring how people relate to each other and how what each has brought with them into the relationship, impacts upon it.

Generally, the people I see come to therapy in order to address emotional, personal or relationship problems.

These include:

  • Lack of confidence
  • Difficulties in sustaining relationships
  • Bereavement & other losses
  • Physical illness
  • Difficulty in expressing feelings
  • Loneliness
  • Issues relating to abuse or unhappiness in childhood
  • Stress at work
  • Spousal Abuse

They might also come because they wish to work on one or other of these symptoms:

  • Obsessive and or compulsive behaviour
  • Depression, Anxiety or Panic Attacks
  • Psychosexual Problems
  • Substance Abuse (including Food, Alcohol, Pornography, Drugs)
  • Suicide and Self-Harming

I usually offer open-ended long-term therapy, which may continue for at least several months — often longer, especially if difficulties are deep-seated. Together we can reflect on how you respond to life events and explore the way you relate to yourself and others. I won’t tell you what to do or give advice but will help you make your own choices.

We would start with an assessment, where we can both get a feel for each other and get a sense of whether we wish to work together. Following this, once or twice weekly sessions last for 50 minutes.

Training, qualifications & experience

My working modality and supervision are in the school of British Object Relations, my training was accredited by the BPC (British Psychoanalytic Council) and I am a registered member of the BACP.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

Accredited register membership

British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy
Accredited Register Scheme

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).
