About me

I am a qualified counsellor who has been in private practice for 6 years.  In addition to this I have worked as a counsellor for a charity, GP surgeries and schools.  I am also a trained Critical Incident Stress Management Debrief Facilitator. Prior to counselling, I was a qualified nurse for almost 20 years before studying for my Diploma in Therapeutic Counselling in Porthcawl.

I use an integrative approach to counselling, and tailor therapy to meet the needs of my client. I acknowledge individuality and that everyone has differing needs and goals of therapy. I provide a confidential, safe, and supportive environment for you to explore any issues or distress which may be affecting you at this time. I can offer a warm, genuine and caring approach, providing empathy and understanding in a non-judgemental way with the goal being that you feel heard, valued and safe in your therapy. We will work together and at your pace, with whatever you choose to bring.

Further information

Therapy can be challenging, and I consider it a privilege and honour to walk your journey with you from despair and confusion, to hope and clarity. Through therapy you can be listened to, heard and understood, and explore your thoughts and feelings in a safe place. You can discover more confidence, increase your self- esteem build better relationships, reduce your anxiety regaining balance, developing healthy coping strategies and taking control of your life.

I have worked with many clients presenting with a wide range of difficulties stress, anxiety, loss and bereavement of family, friends, pets, various forms of abuse, mental and physical health issues, depression, addictions, pregnancy related issues, low self-esteem and confidence to name but a few. I undertake both long- and short-term work as required.  I am also a trained critical incident stress management debrief facilitator.

I have previously worked for charities, in GP surgeries and in a school as a Counsellor. I have found my extensive nursing career has helped me gain deeper understanding of the effects of both mental and physical health and has allowed me to work non-judgementally, treating everyone with respect and dignity.

My practice is Asha Counselling Services. I am registered with the NCPS, fully insured and DBS checked. I have had lots of positive feedback from clients I have worked with and look forward to working with you too.
