About me
I am Rebecca and I love the work. I like people and understand that life is not always a happy affair and often there are problems to face that can seem insurmountable. I work with individuals to explore patterns, feelings and relationships that are barriers to clarity, creating over time a deeper trust in your capacity to understand yourself and your world better and to manage it in ways that are respectful and compassionate.
Therapy for me, as a client and as a therapist, is about making space to return to who we are and find some acknowledgement and care as we move through the complications we encounter.
Training, qualifications & experience
I am a fully qualified Humanistic Counsellor or Therapist and a member of the British Association for Counsellors and Psychotherapists. I have a Post-Graduate Diploma in Humanistic Counselling and trained under some exceptional tutors.
My experience as an advanced trainee included the privilege of working in connection with charities in York such as Menfullness, Refugee Action York and York Carers.
More recent experience involves working in private practice with adults of all ages on a wide range of problems that occur in life. I continue to support with issues around men's mental and emotional health, and other social issues, associated with, for example, coping with bereavement, and issues specific to older people.
My ever-continuing professional development includes focus on relationships and communication and research on the links between emotional and physical health.
Member organisations

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred). Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA). Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision. Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training. All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.
Accredited register membership

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).
This therapist has indicated that they belong to an Accredited Register.

How do I work? What will this feel like or look like?
The therapeutic space is one in which we work at a pace that suits you, on issues you bring into the room building trust as we work. It is a non-judgemental relationship in which you are seen and heard and we explore potential blind spots, stuck narratives and hidden emotions that may be a barrier to some peace or helpful self-awareness. Always, the work is compassionate.
