About me
I understand that it can be overwhelming to decide to have counselling and also to choose a therapist that you feel is suitable for you. It may be that you are feeling anxious or depressed or have experienced a loss and are in search of some emotional support at this time.
Research has shown that the main contributor to experiencing a positive experience of counselling is the relationship between the counsellor and the client. I offer a free initial Phone call; this will give you time to ask any questions and get a feel for how I work and whether or not I am the right counsellor for you; if I feel that you need more than what I can offer, I will discuss this with you and signpost you to services that may be of more benefit.
During sessions, I may use cognitive behavioural therapy techniques; this is where we work together to see what thoughts you may be having and the effect they have on you. We work collaboratively to see how accurate these are and what alternative thoughts we can put in place. Most importantly, I listen to what you would like to gain from having counselling and then tailor sessions to fit around that.
Counselling can often leave us feeling exhausted and like an emotional rollercoaster; together, we will look at ways of keeping grounded between sessions, perhaps through mindfulness and other activities.
The main thing I would like you to take in from reading my profile is that as a counsellor, I genuinely care about those I work with, and it is such a privilege to join people on their counselling journeys and watch their growth, which comes from them. Understanding our feelings, making sense of experiences, or coming to terms with events can significantly impact our emotional well-being for the better.
