About me

Hi, I'm Rachel. I'm an integrative counsellor, which means I draw on different therapeutic approaches and adapt the way we work together to suit you, your experiences and what you want from counselling. At the heart of my approach is person-centred therapy, which means I place you at the centre of the process, taking the time to understand your experiences, feelings and perspective. Where appropriate, I incorporate CBT techniques to help you recognise unhelpful thought patterns, develop practical coping strategies and work towards meaningful change. If useful, I also work psychotherapeutically, exploring how past experiences can continue to affect how you think, feel and respond in the present.

From my own experience of therapy, I understand how important it is to feel comfortable with your counsellor and to have a space where you feel truly heard and able to be open and honest about what you're experiencing.

I have a particular interest in anxiety and understand how consuming it can feel. Anxiety can send our minds spiralling through worst-case scenarios and endless ‘what ifs?’, leaving us going round and round without ever reaching a conclusion. Having experienced anxiety myself, I get how it can sometimes feel like you're simply surviving each day rather than really living. I also know that things can change, and whether you're experiencing anxiety or struggling with something else, you don't have to feel stuck in the same place. Together, we can identify what maybe keeping you stuck and consider what could help you move forward.

I have also supported survivors of domestic abuse in healing and rebuilding their sense of self. Sometimes the effects of an unhealthy or abusive relationship continue long after the relationship has ended. You may find yourself questioning your decisions and judgement, struggling to trust your instincts, losing confidence in yourself, feeling anxious in relationships or unsure of who you are outside of them. Together we can make sense of what you've experienced, understand how it may still be affecting you, and create space to reconnect with yourself and what you want.

Whether you're struggling with loneliness, low self-confidence, relationship difficulties or perhaps you're feeling overwhelmed, stuck, disconnected from yourself or like you can’t switch off. I believe it can be helpful to have a space where you don't have to figure everything out on your own.

If sitting in a therapy room doesn't feel right for you, Walk and Talk Therapy is a great alternative. We walk together outdoors while exploring whatever is on your mind, offering a calm and supportive space to reflect, process experiences and talk at your own pace.

If anything you've read here resonates with you, feel free to get in touch. I understand that reaching out for counselling can feel like a big step, particularly if you've never spoken to someone in this way before. You don't need to have everything figured out or know exactly what to say. We can arrange a free 15-minute consultation to talk things through, ask me any questions you may have and see whether I feel like the right fit for you. There's no pressure or expectation to commit to anything.
