About me
Welcome and thank you for visiting my profile.
I'm Rachael, an experienced BACP registered counsellor working with adult individuals both in person in Bath and Chippenham and online.
When we experience hard times, our distress can challenge our capacity to cope and live life as we would like. At such times, feeling that we need some extra support is completely understandable and reaching out for help is such an important step.
As your counsellor, I'm dedicated to helping you work through your difficulties and reduce your distress creating a path to positive change.
Why you might be seeking counselling
You may feel anxious, overwhelmed, confused, stuck or depressed. You may have relationship problems, low self-esteem, have been bereaved or be dealing with the lasting impact of past trauma, to name but a few.
Equally, you might not know exactly what the problem is, but you know that things just don't feel right. Whatever you're struggling with, it is valid and deserves care and attention.
How I can help
I can offer you a warm, compassionate, and neutral space to explore your thoughts, feelings and situation without fear of judgement, enabling you to make sense of your experience.
I will be alongside you, helping you process difficult emotions or unresolved issues making space for new ways of being.
I will collaborate with you, providing gentle challenge, different perspectives, psycho-education and suggestions where appropriate so that you can feel empowered to create a way forward that feels right to you.
Most importantly, over time I hope to build a therapeutic relationship with you based on safety and trust, where you can feel seen, heard, understood and unconditionally valued.
What I can help with
I work with a diverse range of clients and presentations, including those involving anxiety, stress, depression, relationship issues and trauma.
I have a special interest in helping clients with in low-self esteem, self-criticism and shame alongside loss and bereavement including disenfranchised and complicated grief.
My niche is in supporting those who are involuntarily childless in processing their experience and finding new meaning and purpose in life.
My Approach
Using an integrative model, I will draw upon a number of counselling theories and techniques to best suit you.
My approach is grounded in the humanistic principle of being client-led. This means that I will be guided by you in terms of the topics we discuss in each session, the pace at which we work and the direction we take.
Next Steps
I offer a free 15-20 introductory phone call to get an initial idea about whether I could be the right counsellor for you.
If it seems that we could be a good match, we will then arrange an initial session to reach a final decision about whether to start working together.
The session will involve talking in more depth about your reasons for seeking counselling, gathering some key information and beginning to establish the main focus for the work.
If you are less clear about what you want to get out of therapy then the first part of therapy can be used for exploration to help you set your goals.
I know it can feel daunting to reach out, but I welcome any enquiries or questions you may have, so please don't hesitate to get in touch.

Member organisations

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred). Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA). Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision. Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training. All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.
Accredited register membership

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).
This therapist has indicated that they belong to an Accredited Register.
