About us

Are you someone who appears capable, thoughtful, and “together”, yet internally feels overwhelmed, anxious, emotionally burdened, or disconnected from yourself.

Many of the people I work with have spent years coping quietly. They think deeply, take responsibility seriously, and are often relied upon by others. From the outside, they may look high-functioning, but inside, there is pressure, self-criticism, guilt, or a sense of constantly holding things together. Rest doesn’t feel easy. Letting go feels unsafe. And even when you understand yourself intellectually, something still doesn’t shift emotionally.

At Quiet Time Therapy, I offer a calm, reflective space where you don’t need to perform, explain yourself perfectly, or rush toward solutions. Therapy here is about slowing things down, understanding how your system learned to survive, and gently creating change that feels internally safe, meaningful, and sustainable.

Who I Often Work With
I often work with adults and young people who experience:

  • High-functioning anxiety, constant overthinking, pressure, vigilance, or feeling unable to switch off
  • Chronic guilt or over-responsibility, especially for other people’s emotions or wellbeing
  • Trauma that is relational or developmental, rather than a single “obvious” event
  • Emotional shutdown or overwhelm, particularly when expressing needs or boundaries
  • Identity confusion, feeling unsure who you are beyond roles, expectations, or survival strategies
  • OCD, particularly when it is linked to responsibility, morality, shame, or identity
  • Feeling insightful but still stuck, having done therapy before, yet not feeling emotionally changed

You don’t need to have a clear label or diagnosis. Many clients come simply knowing that something isn’t working anymore or that they can’t keep carrying things alone.

Trauma-Informed, Without Rushing or Re-Traumatising
I work trauma-informed and with great care around pacing and emotional safety.

Trauma doesn’t always show up as flashbacks or clear memories. It can live in guilt, shame, hyper-responsibility, emotional inhibition, people-pleasing, or a sense that calming down or asserting yourself feels dangerous. Many clients minimise their experiences or feel unsure whether they “count” as trauma at all.

Our work focuses on:

  • Understanding how past experiences shaped your emotional responses
  • Reducing shame and self-blame
  • Re-establishing a sense of internal safety and agency
  • Working at a pace that respects your nervous system

This is not about forcing disclosure or reliving the past. It’s about changing the meaning the past still holds, so it no longer runs your present.

Identity, Guilt & the Roles You Had to Carry

A core part of my work involves helping clients untangle who they are from who they had to be.

Many people I work with grew up learning to be:

  • The “good one”
  • The strong one
  • The fixer or emotional anchor
  • The responsible or morally careful one

While these roles once helped you cope, they often come at a cost. Guilt when you rest, anxiety when you assert yourself, or shame when you fall short. Therapy offers space to gently examine these internal rules, grieve what was missed, and build an identity that is no longer organised around survival.

What Therapy Can Support You With
Through our work together, therapy can help you:

  • Feel less on edge
  • Reduce anxiety without suppressing emotions
  • Soften guilt and over-responsibility
  • Feel safer expressing needs and boundaries
  • Develop self-trust and emotional clarity
  • Feel more grounded in who you are
  • Change is not rushed, it is thoughtful, paced, and rooted in understanding.

First Sessions & Practicalities
Our first sessions focus on understanding you, your experiences, your inner world, and what you hope therapy might offer. There is no pressure to share more than feels right. We regularly check in on pace and direction, and therapy remains collaborative throughout.

A Gentle Invitation
If you’re used to coping quietly or carrying a lot alone, reaching out can feel like a big step. If you’re looking for therapy that is thoughtful, emotionally attuned, and grounded in real understanding, you’re very welcome to contact me to explore whether this feels like the right fit.

Training, qualifications & experience

I am a BABCP Accredited Cognitive Behavioural Therapist with a background in forensic mental health nursing, where I worked with individuals experiencing complex trauma, severe emotional distress, personality difficulties, and high-risk presentations. This early part of my career shaped my ability to remain calm, thoughtful, and steady in the face of intense emotional experiences.

My work now integrates evidence-based CBT with trauma-informed and schema-focused approaches. I specialise in presentations where anxiety, guilt, identity, and responsibility are deeply intertwined, particularly when coping strategies that once ensured survival are now creating emotional exhaustion, relational strain, or internal conflict.

I have completed additional training in trauma-informed CBT and Emotion-Focused Therapy and I am currently undertaking doctoral-level training in Counselling Psychology & Psychotherapy. This allows me to work at depth — not just reducing symptoms, but helping clients understand and rework long-standing emotional patterns in a safe and collaborative way.
