About me

My name is Pippa, and I specialise in working with people who are experiencing any type of life change.  These changes can cause us to feel lost and question who we are.  Key to my approach, is fostering/building a relationship with you, that enables you to bring your ‘whole self’ to our work together.  Many of us have parts of ourselves we hide because we don’t like them or want to change them.  I will support you to understand and accept your different parts, so that you can have a better relationship with yourself, which will enable you to cope even more effectively with the ups and downs of life.

Experiencing stress, anxiety or depression (or any other mental health difficulties) can cause us to act in ways, which feel out of control and, together, we will explore how this affects you day to day.  We will also uncover potential contributary factors, so that you can make changes over time, and feel calmer and more centred in yourself.

I recognise that sometimes our experiences are hard to put into words, so alongside traditional talking therapy, I work creatively to access those experiences for which it may be difficult to express through talking alone. Don’t worry, this doesn’t mean that you have to be artistic, it will just involve us doing some activities, that support you to explore your situation from different perspectives.

Working together:

I am experienced in working with:

Anxiety
Depression
Stress
Bereavement
Family / relationship issues
Trauma
Identity
Seeking greater meaning or purpose in life

My area of specialty is supporting people through significant life changes such as:

Mid life
Menopause
Empty nest
Life after burnout
Career change
Preparing for retirement

These life changes can bring both grief for what may be lost, and also the hope for the future and this can be a difficult path to walk, to give attention to both the loss and the gain.  Dependent on our previous experiences, we may tend towards one or the other and for us to effectively move through these transitions in life it is useful to understand both. As your counsellor I will support you to explore all aspects in a safe, contained way to support your transition.

A Bit About Me:

Finding a counsellor who works well with you is fundamental, so I believe that it is important that I tell you a little about myself.

I have worked with people of all ages, in many different areas, including both the public and private sectors, and the NHS.  My experience supports my knowledge and understanding of difference, and I am mindful of how our uniqueness can shape our experiences of the world and others.

As a learning and development specialist, I have over twenty years’ experience of supporting people with making positive changes in their life.  My particular interest in neuroscience, means that I understand how brains grow, develop and learn.  In addition to this, my understanding of the body-brain connection means that I can work with you to recognise the physical effect your psychological experiences may be having on your body.

Never too far from woodlands, sea, or the Norfolk Broads, I find nature particularly inspiring and calming and particularly appreciate Norfolk’s ‘big skies’.  Even when visiting more urban areas, I take time to find green areas, or a moment to appreciate the night sky on a clear evening.  I also take time to nurture my creative side, through writing, singing and other craft-related pursuits.

I offer a free initial half-hour telephone or video call, where we can explore your requirements.  You will also have the chance to ask questions about my approach, so that we can decide whether we are the right fit for one another.

Training, qualifications & experience

I am a registered member of the BACP, and work within their code of ethics.  I hold a degree in BSc (Hons) Integrative Psychotherapeutic Counselling, having studied at Matrix College of Counselling and Psychotherapy.  I have a Diploma in Hypnotherapy and Neuro Linguistic Programming and Certification in Transactional Analysis.

I am a registered Mental Health First Aid Instructor, through MHFA England and have designed and delivered training on a range of mental health topics for a local mental health charity.

My experience of counselling comes from a variety of different settings, including working with the adult staff in a primary school, I have also worked at St Barnabas Counselling Service in Norwich, which included supporting refugees and migrants and undertaking training, to support my work with interpreters and clients speaking multiple languages.

Continually developing, I keep up to date with my learning through attending regular seminars, conferences and training, as well as reading the latest research on related topics.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred). Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA). Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision. Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training. All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.
