About me

My years of experience as a GP in the NHS mean that I understand what it is like to feel that you are running on empty.

You may feel anxious, low or troubled. Life might seem like you are wading through treacle.

You may have experienced loss: of people, of relationships, of purpose, of self-esteem, of security, of youth, of health, of a job...You may be going through change or feel the need for change.

You neither want nor deserve an off-the-peg answer. My role as a counsellor is to collaborate with you to find your own bespoke answer to whatever brings you to therapy.

I work with you, adapting therapy to your needs, to help you move beyond your current difficulties to a place which feels better: to get your life in a balance you are happier with.

I work with people of all ages and many different backgrounds who bring a wide range of issues. I have experience counselling autistic adults and people who have experienced trauma.

I offer short-term and long-term face to face counselling for adults. I also offer Walk and Talk/Outdoor therapy sessions. My working days are Tuesday, Wednesday & Thursday.

If you have any questions or would like a chat by phone to help you decide if I am the right therapist for you, please email me or text/leave a message on 07795328660.

Further information

After qualifying as a doctor in the 1980s, I worked in a variety of specialities before training and working as a family doctor in and around Sheffield. I felt I needed to make a significant change so I first took an MA in Law-but that didn't feel right. So I went to counselling to explore what I needed to do, and that gave me the space to find some clarity: I let go of my career, my identity- it seemed like my whole life-and retrained as an Integrative Counsellor.

My medical background has taught me many things, but some to mention here. The first is that whilst I do have some expertise, You are the only expert on You. My role is to support and collaborate with you, rather than dictate or prescribe to you, as you go through the process of healing and changing. The second is that listening, really listening to understand, is more important than listening to compose a suitable reply. And thirdly, to have a healthy scepticism towards the medicalisation of mental health issues, and to question the usefulness of diagnoses when they are used to label and pigeonhole the emotions that we all feel as humans.

I work predominantly face to face whether inside or outdoors. I prefer to use online or phone for maintaining continuity should Life or Covid get in the way.

I take part in regular supervision and undertake continuing professional development.
