About me
Hi, I’m Peter. I work with people who may outwardly be functioning well, but privately are carrying more than they let on. Many of my clients are living with the long-term effects of stress, burnout, anxiety, or experiences that were never fully processed at the time.
Often the discomfort may not be dramatic or easy to name. It might show up as emotional exhaustion, irritability, disconnection, low mood, relationship strain, or a constant sense of being on edge. For some, these patterns are linked to earlier life experiences: childhood emotional neglect, difficult family dynamics, sudden losses, relationship trauma, or periods of overwhelm where there was no space to stop and recover.
I offer a calm, steady space to work through these experiences at a pace that feels manageable. My approach is conversational and trauma-aware, without pushing you to relive things before you’re ready. We can explore how past experiences continue to shape your reactions, sense of self, and relationships today, and we focus on helping you find more safety, flexibility, and ease.
I don’t believe therapy needs to be intense or overwhelming to be effective. Much of the work is about slowing down, making sense of what’s happening beneath the surface, and gently reconnecting with parts of yourself that may have been ignored in the effort to cope and carry on.
If you’re living with the impact of unresolved experiences — whether recent or long ago — and want a thoughtful, grounded place to work things through, I’d be glad to support you. No pressure, no judgement, just careful attention and space to heal in a way that fits your life.
Training, qualifications & experience
I have trained in Person-Centred Counselling and achieved my Level 4 CPCAB qualification in Counselling Skills. I am also a registered member of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy, a professional body responsible for upholding standards and ensuring ethical practice.
During my training, I completed a placement as a school counsellor within a specialist setting for excluded pupils. This work deepened my interest in supporting young people, students, and families navigating complex emotional and behavioural challenges.
I have also worked within counselling agencies offering therapy with an LGBT+ focus, supporting clients around identity, relationships, and the impact of discrimination and marginalisation.
In my private practice, I work with clients experiencing burnout and emotional overwhelm linked to work and family life. This includes difficulties around work–life balance, the pressures of neurodiverse family systems, pregnancy loss, sexuality, and the long-term impact of abuse and trauma. Much of my work focuses on helping clients make sense of these experiences in a way that feels safe, steady, and manageable.
Member organisations
school Registered / Accredited
Being registered/accredited with a professional body means an individual must have achieved a substantial level of training and experience approved by their member organisation.
The National Counselling and Psychotherapy Society This Not For Profit association of counsellors and psychotherapists aim to support the counselling profession, members and training organisations. In 2013 the NCS register was accredited by the Professional Standards Authority under the Accredited Voluntary Register Scheme. Accredited by the Professional Standards Authority.
BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred). Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA). Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision. Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training. All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.
