I am an accredited member of BACP – British association of Counselling & Psychotherapy.

My experience includes,

 10 years experience working with Employer Assisted programmes including critical incident response work.

 13 years experience as a Lecturer in Counselling studies
 22 years experience in education and training around mental health and wellbeing

I have spent much of my career working in the supporting field, in a range of different roles. I have a passion about the well being of people. My model is broadly humanistic and integrative. I also practise Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, Hypnotherapy & Psychosexual therapies. I believe that the therapeutic alliance and developing a trusting relationship with a counsellor is key to helping any person to grow and make positive changes for themselves. Over the years, providing therapy to individuals, couples & families, I have developed a compassionate interest in relationship and intimacy issues and have undergone further training in this field. .

I believe that education is a factor in all of our wellbeing & personal development and that learning about yourself, and the human condition in general terms can be empowering to both individuals and couples, and can help them to meet their fullest potential. Historically I worked in Family support, where I led parenting programs for struggling families with young children, then later in my career I returned to the family support arena as a therapist, this time I began working with the self esteem and confidence issues that interfered with parenting ability. The focus was around an assumption that happier parents make for happier children and families. I found this work very rewarding.

Alongside this, I was a Lead Trainer for West Wirral Step 2 mental health for the NHS . I devised and delivered a range of psycho-educational programs for adults with mental health issues. The focus was to improve access to psychological services across the Wirral. I was able to support patients with coping strategies & emotional support whilst they were on waiting lists for NHS therapy. I worked with issues such as low self esteem, anxiety disorders, depressive disorders etc.
Recently  I was a Senior lecturer at a Further Educational College for over a decade, where I taught on a range of different Counselling and CBT programmes up to qualification Level 5. I also worked as an External Assessor, and External Verifier for the Counselling and Psychotherapy Qualification Awarding Body CPCAB.

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred). Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA). Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision. Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training. All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.
