About me
Overview
A very warm welcome to Nina May Counselling. I am a qualified Person-Centred Counsellor dedicated to supporting individuals facing a range of challenges, including anxiety, depression, and complex trauma. As a full-time wheelchair user myself, I feel I have a unique understanding of the experiences that come with being disabled, therefore I also strive to create a welcoming space for disabled clients to explore their identities and feelings.
The in-person sessions which I offer, are wheelchair accessible.
How I work
I feel that every client’s therapeutic journey is personal and unique to them, which is why I adopt a non-directive approach in my practice. This means that you, as my client, will always be at the heart of our sessions. My goal is to provide a safe, open, and non-judgmental environment where you can feel comfortable exploring your thoughts and emotions.
Currently, I offer both telephone and a limited number of face-to-face counselling sessions, available on request, each lasting 50 minutes. To help you decide if my counselling services are right for you, after your initial email inquiry, I offer a complimentary 20-minute telephone introductory session. This will provide you with an opportunity to see if I am the right therapist for you, alongside also giving us time to discuss your needs in a supportive environment.
As part of my first session, I will ensure that new clients have signed and understood my client contract, which will have been sent over to you after our initial phone call, if we feel comfortable working together. You will receive this before commencement of our work together. In addition, as part of the first session, I may ask you a few questions to establish what kind of support you are looking for and what kinds of things you may find it helpful to work through. However, this initial assessment is not set in stone, and it does not mean that things can’t be changed as we work through our sessions.

Member organisations
BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred). Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA). Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision. Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training. All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.
Accredited register membership
The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).
This therapist has indicated that they belong to an Accredited Register.
