Sometimes life is difficult. Issues from the past and present can affect us all at anytime in our lives and leave us feeling unbalanced. Symptoms may manifest in many different ways, emotionally, physically and mentally. This can leave a person feeling confused and bewildered. Talking to a trained therapist can help make sense of certain difficulties and problems, thereby encouraging you to make positive changes and providing you with learning tools to deal with these issues.
A very important aspect of therapy is the therapeutic relationship taking place in the therapy room. This relationship is different from ones you may have with family, friends or work colleagues. The whole scenario may seem daunting but we will build a relationship based on trust. My aim is to give you time and space in a non-judgmental and confidential safe environment to discuss and explore your problems and concerns.
If you would like to book an appointment what I normally suggest is we meet for an initial session where we can discuss what has brought you to counselling, what your goals and aims maybe. I can give you more information about how I work as a counsellor. This will help you decide if I am the right counsellor for you. There is no obligation to agree to continue at the end of the initial session.
My approach varies according to your individual needs, thus enabling us to deal with a wide range of problems. Working together, we seek to tackle challenges or issues that you may be facing. Individuals think, feel and act in different ways. As an Integrative therapist I can work with you to produce a unique therapy adapted to suit your needs.
A brief description of some of the different approaches I use:
EMDR Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing -
The primary goal of EMDR is to release you from the dydfunctional ties of the Past so that adaptive responses can be made in the Present. EMDR therapy works with emotional responses which have been inter-woven within our physical or somatic state. EMDR uses a body based technique called bilateral simulation. I would guide you through eye movements or taps in order to move a memory that has been stored in a part of or brain which becomes very activated to unrelated or related stimuli, to a place in the brain where the painful memories lose their charge. Cognitive Behaviour Therapy CBT -
Works by examining the ways that thought, feelings and behaviour can affect you and how these can influence our actions. We work together in changing your behaviour and/or thinking patterns
Person Centred Counselling -
Works by building a therapeutic relationship whereby you are able to gain a sense of personal power. Identifying how you want to live and then supporting you to acheive your goals.
Works through your perceptions of past experiences and how they influence you in the present.
Works by exploring how you organise your experiences, cognitively (thinking) emotional (feeling) movement, five sense perception (smell, sight, sound, touch, and taste) somatic responses heart rate, breathing and temperature. This works very well with the physical symptoms of anxiety and traumatic experience

I am a Registered and Accredited Member of the British Association of Counsellors and Psychotherapists (BACP)
I am an experienced practitioner working with various different traumas. I have a vast experience in working with all types of addiction in the public and private sector. There are many other issues that underpin addiction and I have supported clients to move towards making positive changes. I also work with families which is important as they are often forgotten when they are supporting a loved one in active addiction.
I have also worked as a counsellor for a generic counselling organisation. My knowledge of working with anxiety and depression is extensive including supporting people who are dealing with bereavement and relationship breakdown plus many other issues. Registered / Accredited
Being registered/accredited with a professional body means an individual must have achieved a substantial level of training and experience approved by their member organisation.
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy
BACP is one of the UK’s largest professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy. Therapists registered with the Association fall into a number of different membership categories such as Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP and Registered Member MBACP (Accred), each standing for different levels of training and experience. MBACP (Accred) and MBACP (Snr Accred) members have achieved a substantial level of training and experience approved by the Association.
Registered members can be found on the BACP Register, which was the first register to achieve Accredited Voluntary Register status issued by the Professional Standards Authority. Individual Members will have completed an appropriate counselling and/or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but will not appear on the BACP Register until they've progressed to Registered Member MBACP status.
All members are bound by a Code of Ethics & Practice and a Complaints Procedure. Accredited by the Professional Standards Authority.

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).
