Nicola Smith - MBACP - Space to Talk
I am a fully qualified therapist and registered member of the British Association of Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP). I am experienced in helping clients with anxiety, stress, depression, grief and many other issues.
Working together with you, I aim to offer a supportive space for you to explore your experience and feelings, to enable you to identify your strengths and to encourage positive change. I tailor the work to you depending on what you wish to explore and how many sessions you require.
Whatever the issue counselling and psychotherapy gives you a space to explore where you are in your life, how you got there and how you can move forward.
What is Counselling?
Counselling gives you a chance to explore your issues in a confidential space. Counselling is often described as the talking therapy; it is a safe way to discuss your thoughts and feelings. As your therapist I am able to provide a friendly and non-judgemental space to talk through any current issues you are facing.
What is Psychotherapy?
Psychotherapy works to help you have a deeper understanding of your emotions by looking at your past. It questions how what you experienced in earlier life affects you in ways that might still be causing you issues now.
Psychotherapy aims to find the very origins of your issues and challenges and enables you to make positive changes.
Training, qualifications & experience
Alongside my private practice i also work as a therapist for two organisations offering psychotherapy to adults. My previous experience includes counselling adults in a charitable setting dealing with a range of issues including anxiety, depression, stress, trauma, loss and abuse. In addition, I am experienced in working with teenage students and also adults in bereavement, having been a therapist for a college and a bereavement support organisation.
Before becoming a therapist I worked in adoption for over 10 years helping to find families for children and providing support to adopters going through their adoption journey. I therefore have a range of experience in helping people through challenges.
