About me

Life is unpredictable and we all have times when we need help and support. You may have been struggling for sometime and it has got to the point where you know you cannot go on feeling like this anymore.

Sometimes everyday life can be difficult to manage and it feels like you are constantly struggling to keep your head above water. Distressing thoughts are persistent and affect your well-being. Anxiety can be overwhelming and consuming.

I am experienced with working with adults who identify with having grown up in an unstable or unsafe environment. Witnessing violence and surviving abusive events, whether they were isolated or frequent, physical or emotional, can severely impact behaviour leading to negative self worth and difficult relationships. It can make it harder to trust others and your own sense of self. It can feel like you are constantly living ‘behind a mask’, often finding it difficult to talk about your true feelings and emotions.

However, talking about your past and understanding how your experiences have impacted you can be transformative. For children experiencing traumatic events, the impact is far reaching, often into adulthood, and can result in psychological and emotional distress, which can show up as depression, anxiety and anger.  I can help you begin to talk, process and heal.

Alongside anxiety and depression, I am also experienced in working with low self esteem and self-worth,  both of which can often be as a result of difficult childhood experiences as well as other traumatic events.
I also work with bereavement or loss of any kind and I will work with you to find a more positive place where life seems manageable again

If you are struggling with anything at the moment, or are feeling particularly low and life feels really difficult, this may be the time to reflect on your current distress, your life decisions or past traumatic events in a compassionate and non judgemental environment. Whatever you are going through at the moment, I can work with you to unlock deep feelings and challenge negative behaviours. I work with whatever you want to bring and only ever at your pace. I will not diagnose or advise you, but will support you as you begin to make sense of often difficult and conflicting emotions

I can also help couples with relationship problems such as affairs and betrayals, major life decisions, the constant cycle of arguments and communication problems.

I really understand that counselling can seem daunting, so I want to reassure you that I am compassionate and kind and can offer you a confidential space where you can explore your difficulties, feelings or relationships in a deeper way.

I work with individuals and couples, regardless of ethnicity, gender, religion, cultural background and sexual orientation. I offer face to face, telephone or online counselling, so if you would like to know more about me and how I work, please feel free to contact me for a free 15 minute chat.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).
