About me

Who I see...

Hello & welcome. My name is Nicola, I work with adults & teens 15+.  I see people with varying presenting issues from all different walks of life & I specialize in working with anxiety. I can help you manage and reduce anxiety as well as working at the deeper root cause so that there is less to reduce and manage. I also have a wealth of experience with burnout and relationship issues.  I have deep compassion for anyone who feels ‘othered’ for any reason including anyone struggling with gender identity. I work relationally and  psychotherapeutically with you as a whole person, rather than just with your symptoms. My modality is Transactional Analysis and where appropriate I work the somatic experience in terms of body sensations. I offer low cost (£6 per session) somatic awareness sessions online. Please visit my website for further information.

How I See You...

Face-to-face sessions are held in Northgate, Crawley and I also work online.

Specialities...

I have worked extensively with anxiety, using a 'first aid' method initially then at your pace, helping you to change your relationship with anxiety. It may sound far fetched right now but anxiety can be a useful message from your body instead of something that overwhelms you. I also work with bereavement and grief, including bereavement by murder or suicide and grief unrelated to death. Many people who turn to substances or distraction find that they are avoiding feelings of grief about lacking connections in childhood, this hidden, early grief can be very painful to process yet can be beneficial in changing life long patterns of behaviours from the inside out.

How I work...

My psychotherapy modality is Transactional Analysis which offers a vast wealth of theory that allows me to tailor sessions to you, the individual rather than just your current symptoms or issues.
I work relationally, meaning our therapeutic relationship is important. The quality of the therapeutic relationship has been proven to be more effective in positive outcomes than any given modality.

I work with your thought patterns, feelings & beliefs you didn't know you had that sit behind them. Where appropriate I will also challenge you, work creatively, & with early pre-verbal feelings in the body.

How Long will it take?

If you need help to cope better with a temporary blip this may be short term work. If we are working with repeating patterns or issues rooted in childhood this can take longer. I generally say lets do six sessions then have a look at where we are, we can make a new plan together from there.

Starting Your Journey...

I offer a 15 minute call or zoom so we can have an initial chat, just to put your mind at ease and answer any questions you may have, and if you haven't got any questions, well that's fine too. You and I are equals in this process and are working together to help you get to where you want to be. Remember that being a client, you can’t get anything wrong, you just need to show up, the rest will unfold.

Young People...

I see young people age 15+ and offer a small discount to under 16s.

Who I Do Not See...

Please note that if you are seeking counselling for issues around adoption the law has changed and only counsellors with specific training in adoption can take you on as a client.

Other areas of counselling I deal with

I work with people who are experiencing extreme emotional pain who cannot put into words what is causing their distress. Creatives and body work works well so if you are unsure of what is wrong or what to say, we can work together with this.
