About me

I am a UKCP-registered Psychoanalytic Psychotherapist with many years of clinical experience, including working in senior psychotherapy roles within the NHS, as well as in private and other therapeutic settings. I offer a thoughtful and confidential space to explore emotional difficulties, relationships and the recurring patterns that can shape how we experience ourselves and others.

My core training is in psychoanalytic psychotherapy. This means I am interested not only in the difficulties you may be experiencing now, but also in how earlier relationships and experiences may continue to influence the present. We can think together about what may be happening in your emotional life and relationships, and begin to understand things that can sometimes be difficult to make sense of alone.

I work with people experiencing a wide range of emotional and relational difficulties, including anxiety, depression, trauma, difficulties with self-esteem and identity, self-harm and suicidal thoughts, and longstanding patterns within relationships.

My wider clinical experience allows me to work flexibly. For some people, this means longer-term, open-ended psychotherapy that allows time for deeper exploration. For others, a more focused or time-limited approach may be appropriate. I am also trained as a Mentalization-Based Treatment (MBT) practitioner, which informs my interest in how we understand ourselves and others, particularly when emotions or relationships become difficult.

Alongside my wider psychotherapy practice, which is open to adults of all sexualities and gender identities, I have a particular interest and expertise in working with gay, bisexual and queer men. My clinical work and research have explored sexuality, identity, relationships, shame and internalised homophobia, including how these experiences can become connected with emotional distress and the way we experience ourselves.

You do not need to arrive knowing exactly what you want to talk about or having a clear explanation for how you feel. We can begin with what has brought you to therapy and think together about what emerges over time.

I currently offer confidential 50-minute psychotherapy sessions online to adults across the UK and am based in South Devon.

Finding a therapist you feel comfortable with is important. If you are considering psychotherapy and would like to explore whether working together might be right for you, you are welcome to get in touch.

Training, qualifications & experience

I trained in psychoanalytic psychotherapy at the University of Kent and have continued to develop my clinical practice through further training, research and many years of work within NHS and other therapeutic services.

My qualifications include:

  • Doctor of Clinical Practice (Research), University of Exeter, 2024
  • Master of Clinical Science in Psychotherapy, University of Kent, 2017
  • Postgraduate Diploma in Psychotherapy Studies, University of Kent, 2009
  • Mentalization-Based Treatment (MBT) Practitioner, Anna Freud Centre, 2023
  • First Class Honours degree in Social Science, Canterbury Christ Church University, 2006

My additional professional training and development has included work relating to:

  • Trauma and complex trauma
  • Gender and sexual diversity
  • Self-harm and suicidality
  • Autism and ADHD
  • Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT) skills
  • Mindfulness
  • Brief Solution-Focused Therapy

I have extensive clinical experience within NHS mental health services, including senior roles in secondary care. My work has included psychotherapy with people experiencing complex and longstanding emotional and relational difficulties, trauma, self-harm and suicidality.

Alongside my clinical practice, I have undertaken doctoral and published research exploring suicidality and internalised homophobia among gay, bisexual and queer men. This research continues to inform my particular clinical interest in sexuality, identity, shame and emotional distress.

I am registered with the United Kingdom Council for Psychotherapy (UKCP) through the Council for Psychoanalysis and Jungian Analysis (CPJA).
