About me
For a quick view of my practice please see the video link at the foot of this page.
I am an experienced Counsellor and Cognitive Behaviour Therapist working in Pinner. I am an accredited Member of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP). I am also an accredited member of the British Association for Behavioural & Cognitive Psychotherapists (BABCP) and a registered hypnotherapy practitioner with the General Hypnotherapy Register (GHR).
I work with individuals and couples in the following areas:
Couple and Relationship Counselling
Anxiety and Depression
Addictions and substance misuse
Trauma
Counselling for Children and Young People (13-18)
Bereavement and Loss.
I have many years of experience working in management positions for large corporations and understand the kinds of issues and anxieties created in the work environment such as stress, motivation and performance difficulties. My experience and knowledge of the work environment enables me to help both men and women struggling to cope with career-related pressures and the challenges this can present to our psychological health and well-being.
My approach to counselling
I believe it's essential that you feel comfortable and safe with the therapist you choose - meaningful change and lasting results can only be achieved by building a trusting relationship. I apply the same approach to my own therapeutic needs and I've always found this to be the most important aspect to consider when looking for a suitable therapist. It might help you if say that my own experiences prompted me to seek counselling several years ago to address personal issues and challenges which, at the time felt too difficult to manage alone. The warmth and respect I subsequently received in counselling had a hugely positive influence on the way I viewed my own issues. We often underestimate our ability to deal effectively with problems and I hope that others will benefit from the professional support I can provide during a difficult time or crisis. The commitment I make to you is to work with warmth, compassion and sensitivity - for me counselling has to be much more than techniques and formal qualifications - important though these are - but it's the understanding and connection between counsellor and client that really matters. As Irvin Yalom says: "It's the relationship that heals! It's the relationship that heals!"

Member organisations
school Registered / Accredited
Being registered/accredited with a professional body means an individual must have achieved a substantial level of training and experience approved by their member organisation.
BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred). Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA). Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision. Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training. All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.
Accredited register membership
The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).
This therapist has indicated that they belong to an Accredited Register.

Hypnotherapy
In addition to being a Counsellor and Psychotherapist I am also a qualified Hypnotherapist and a registered Hypnotherapy Practitioner with membership of the General Hypnotherapy Register (GHR) and General Hypnotherapy Standards Council (GHSC).
Hypnotherapy is a completely safe and natural way to achieve positive and lasting results in a relatively short period of time. There are no negative side-effects and you remain in complete control of your actions during and after the session. Clients seek help through hypnotherapy for a range of issues such as eating disorders, phobias, irritable bowel syndrome (IBS), gaining confidence and feeling less anxious, reducing stress or overcoming depression. Hypnotherapy can be particularly effective for individuals seeking to become a non-smoker or relieving pain. Hypnotherapy is very pleasurable and relaxing - as one client recently said to me: "That was the most relaxed I have ever felt in my life!" I am able to offer hypnotherapy both as a separate service to counselling and also as part of a combined approach to problems that may have proved resistant to previous interventions. I would be pleased to discuss how I might help you and your specific needs.
If you are interested in knowing more about the benefits of my hypnotherapy service please see my website for further details or contact me on 020 8866 2190.
