About me

Therapy for individuals navigating life’s transitions amidst the many challenges of modern life.

Hi, I’m Niamh… a therapeutic counsellor based in Tamworth and online. I appreciate that reaching out can feel daunting, so I’m so glad you have found your way here.

I work with men, women and young adults who feel overwhelmed, disconnected from themselves or their partners and who feel caught in endless cycles of self-criticism and overthinking. Maybe self-doubt is holding you back from reaching your full potential, or perhaps parenthood has left you feeling a little lost, unsure of who you are beyond the many roles you play. Whatever it is you’re struggling with, I’m here to listen, without judgement or agenda.

What I Can Help With

  • Disconnection & overwhelm
  • Anxiety, perfectionism & overthinking
  • Loss of identity
  • Low self-worth & self-doubt
  • Life’s transitions – e.g. marriage, divorce, starting university, living independently, parenthood

Training, qualifications & experience

  • Qualified as a therapeutic counsellor in 2025, following a 10-year career as a secondary school teacher
  • Registered member of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (MBACP)
  • My practice is rooted in person-centred therapy, with modern psychodynamic approaches integrated where helpful
  • Experience across private practice, secondary and higher education, and the charity sector
  • I work in accordance with the BACP Ethical Framework and engage in regular clinical supervision and continuing professional development

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred). Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA). Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision. Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training. All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy
Accredited Register Scheme

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

This therapist has indicated that they belong to an Accredited Register.

Additional information

I understand that life can be busy, and therapy needs to fit around your life rather than create additional pressure. Sessions are usually offered on a weekly basis, though flexibility can be discussed where appropriate.

I offer a limited number of concessionary spaces for individuals who may benefit from a reduced fee, including students, those on a low income, refugees, and trainee counsellors. As these spaces are limited, please get in touch to enquire about availability and current rates.

How I Work

My style is warm, collaborative, genuine, and supportive. After all, you are the expert in your own story. I’m not here to “fix” you, but to offer An Spás - The Space - to unearth, and reconnect with the person you truly are and the life you wish to create.

Where We Can Meet

Online or via the telephone… wherever you feel most comfortable. Face-to-face sessions can be discussed where necessary.
