About me

Maybe you’re struggling to get out of bed in the morning. Nothing seems to motivate you, and you feel stuck. You don’t have the mental energy to carry on pretending you’re ok. Perhaps you believe nobody really wants to hear about how you’re feeling anyway.

It could be that you’re finding yourself caught in a loop of endless scrolling, or disordered eating patterns, trying to distract yourself to block out what's hurting. Maybe you’re using drugs, alcohol, or food to block out those painful thoughts and feelings.  It might be that you’re just about managing to keep your head above water, but you can’t see a way out of what you're feeling, long-term.

Whatever difficulties you’re facing, whether that's anxiety, depression, a sense of hopelessness or whatever may be challenging you, instead of trying to push things away or pretend you’re ok, why not talk to someone who will truly listen, and who could help you to make sense of what you’re experiencing? A person who could give you the time, space and support for you to change how you’re feeling?

Choosing the right counsellor can be difficult. You might not know where to begin. Or perhaps you have a clear idea of who you want them to be. Someone you can really connect with, someone trustworthy, kind and accepting, who won't let you down, find you "too much", or “not enough”. Someone who really wants to listen and understand, so that they can help you make sense of all that you're thinking and feeling.

Training, qualifications & experience

How can counselling with me help you?

I’m really passionate about helping people to reduce their distress, by offering them compassion, time and space to understand what’s at the root of their discomfort.

I respect and appreciate that you know yourself best. By placing the relationship between us at the heart of the work we do together, and accepting you exactly as you are, I will encourage you to take the lead, and bring whatever feels important for you to talk about. I will listen carefully, noticing and reflecting back to you the themes that come up, to better understand your perspective, and explore how I can support you to feel more “you”. I'll be alongside you as you make sense of what you're experiencing. Together, we can identify what might be behind your current thoughts and feelings, so that you can move towards a clearer understanding of yourself and what’s holding you back, aiming to give you a renewed sense of hope, self-worth and confidence. My approach is gentle, but challenging.

I support younger clients (aged 14+), and adults.

I have experience working with younger clients aged 14+ and adults with a variety of issues including relationship difficulties, anxiety, depression, disordered eating, gender questioning, trauma, abuse, loss, bereavement and Emotional Based School Avoidance.

In the past, I have worked supporting men with mental health issues in two prisons, and I am currently working via a charity with women and children survivors of domestic abuse, as well as with a youth service supporting teenagers experiencing a range of issues.

I am a registered member of the BACP, and adhere to their ethical framework. I keep my knowledge and practice up-to-date with Supervision, as well as regular CPD events and workshops in areas such as Self-Injury and Suicide, Eating Disorders, Children and Young People, Safeguarding, and Domestic Abuse.

I offer in-person counselling from my private practice in Ramsgate, as well as online, on the phone, and via email.

What to expect in your first session with me

This will give us a chance to build rapport, for us to discuss what you're hoping to get from counselling, and to talk about any goals you might have. It will be an opportunity for you to share what is difficult for you, and for us to discuss how we will work together.

You can contact me to arrange a free 20-minute phone call to see if we would be a good fit for working together. During this call, you will have the chance to ask questions, and understand how I work. After the call, there is no obligation to book any sessions with me.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred). Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA). Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision. Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training. All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

Accredited Register Scheme

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).
