About me

Hi, I'm Mya Rose. I'm a BACP-registered Integrative Counsellor and Solution-Focused Clinical Hypnotherapist. I have spaces available in-person and online on  Tuesdays, Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays in Shoreditch, East London, and online UK-wide.

I work with people who often appear to be functioning on the outside but are quietly struggling with anxiety, burnout, low self-worth, or repeating patterns, no matter how hard they try to overcome them. Many of my clients are people of colour, men, or part of the LGBTQIA+ community; people who have often felt unseen, misunderstood or minoritised in traditional therapy spaces.

Before becoming a therapist, I spent a decade working as a barber and hairdresser. During that time, I developed the ability to connect with people from diverse backgrounds, especially those who might be hesitant to open up to a therapist. As someone who has personally experienced transitions and exists as a person of colour, I understand what it’s like to sit in front of a therapist who doesn’t fully understand.

My therapeutic approach is integrative, blending existential and psychodynamic perspectives. This helps me understand your experiences, their causes, and what maintains them. In the room, I’ll be a warm, honest and if necessary, challenging presence, aiming to create a safe, engaging environment where you feel genuinely supported. I create a type of therapy space that feels safe to express, and process, helping to ease symptoms and deepen your understanding of relationships, emotions, fears, and beliefs that influence your daily actions.

If you're seeking a faster, more focused approach, I also offer Solution-Focused Clinical Hypnotherapy. It's designed to help with issues like anxiety, stress, ADHD, burnout, low self-esteem, OCD, addictions, insomnia, and persistent emotional or behavioural patterns. This proven method combines solution-focused brief therapy with guided trance techniques, gently soothing your nervous system and encouraging change in ways talking alone might not reach.

LGBTQIA+ & Culturally Affirming Therapy. I provide a supportive environment for LGBTQIA+ clients and people of colour who have faced trauma, discrimination, or the unique exhaustion of navigating a world not designed with you in mind. You don't need to explain yourself here; we start from understanding.

If any of this resonates, I offer a free 15–20 minute consultation so we can see if we’re a good fit before committing to anything.

You are welcome as you are.

Training, qualifications & experience

Qualifications:

  • BSc (Hons) Counselling (First Class)
  • CPCAB Level 3 Certificate in Counselling Studies
  • CPCAB Level 2 Certificate in Counselling Skills
  • Diploma in Solution-Focused Hypnotherapy (DSFH)
  • Gendered Intelligence: Specialist training in Trans and Non-Binary clinical support.

Experience:

  • My clinical experience is grounded in both the charitable sector and private practice. I currently work as a Counsellor for Spectra, a leading not-for-profit LGBTQIA+ charity in London that supports those who are questioning, exploring their gender identity, sex workers, young people, people living with and affected by HIV, as well as black, Asian and people of colour.
  • Before this, I spent 18 months working in other low-cost counselling services, providing both short- and long-term support to a wide variety of individuals.
  • I also bring a unique perspective from over a decade in the hairdressing and barbering industry, having completed degree-level research on men’s experiences of accessing counselling and psychotherapy. This experience informs my "person-first" approach, ensuring that our sessions feel conversational, relatable, and grounded in the real world.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred). Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA). Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision. Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training. All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy
Accredited Register Scheme

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Further information

I work Integratively/Pluralistically, which means I don't believe in a "one-size-fits-all" approach. I blend the deep, exploratory aspects of Existential and Psychodynamic therapy with the practical, future-focused tools of Solution-Focused Brief Therapy (SFBT) and Positive Psychology. My goal is to help you understand the "why" behind your current struggles while providing the "how" to move forward.

I am also integrating Clinical Hypnotherapy into my practice, which is particularly effective for clients dealing with depression, anxiety, ADHD, phobias, stress management, and breaking habits or addictions.
