About me

Welcome. My name is Musonda. I was born in Zambia and relocated to the UK where I have lived and worked for over thirty years.

I am a Psychosexual and Relationship Therapist; and Psychotherapist with COSRT and BACP memberships.  I offer talking therapies to individuals and couples with sexual and relationships issues.  I also offer psychotherapy services to individual adults.

PSYCHOSEXUAL & RELATIONSHIP THERAPY:

I am an MSc qualified  and experienced Psychosexual and Relationship Therapist currently working with private clients and at Relate - Nottingham. Psychosexual Therapy is a form of talking therapy for sexual and relationship problems.  I work with individuals and couples to support them reach a place of better understanding of themselves, their relationships and improved sexual relationships and functioning.  My approach to psychosexual work is client centred and draws from Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) and Sensate Focus (where individuals/couples are encouraged to learn the use of touch sensations to deal with negative thoughts that interfere with sexual interest or responsiveness).

WHAT I CAN HELP WITH:

Relationship and sexual problems: including communication; intimacy issues; erectile dysfunction; dyspareunia; vaginismus; painful sex; low desire; confidence/performance anxiety issues; anorgasmia; premature/delayed ejaculation; and sex education.

PSYCHOTHERAPY:

I am also a BACP registered Psychotherapist experienced in delivering face to face and online therapy.

I primarily work in a relational/integrative way drawing on interventions underpinned by psychodynamic and Humanistic theories. I offer individual counselling to adults only. Within my work with clients, I am curious about early childhood experiences and significant life events; and how these may have come to shape thoughts, beliefs, and behaviour. I believe in going beneath the surface to understand your experiences and give your story a voice. I offer a confidential, non-judgemental space in which you can feel safe to be seen, listened to, heard, and validated.  I work in a client-centred way making this a space for you that starts with you, and that’s where we will work from.

I am a Registered Member of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP) - working towards accreditation; a Professional Associate of  the College of Sexual and Relationship Therapy (COSRT) - working towards registration; and an accredited Member with the National Counselling and Psychotherapy Society (NCPS).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA). Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision. Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training. All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.
