About me

I have extensive experience working with both young people, ( aged 9 to 25 years) and adults. My speciality is working with anxiety and depression and also neurodiversity such as ASD and ADHD. I am also a trauma focused counsellor. Other important areas that I specialise in are helping with low self esteem and confidence and also gender issues.  I am also experienced in helping with eating disorders, self harm and suicidal ideation and well as school refusal.  As a qualified Supervisor I also help and mentor other counsellors and therapists.

My approach is integrative which means I adapt the modalities I have trained in to suit each individual client. My fundamental base is the person centred approach and I strongly incorporate CBT in the form of Acceptance and Commitment Therapy. I also utilise Solution Focused Brief Therapy and offer a longer one off session in this modality lasting up to 1.5 hours after which a regular monthly 50 minute session could be scheduled and agreed.

My practice is compassion focused and also relies on some Mindfulness and creative techniques that are useful to incorporate in sessions and can enhance the counselling process.

Counselling offers a safe, confidential and non-judgmental space to talk and be listened to and heard.  Within counselling sessions the client is the person who knows themselves best and the counselling process allows you to come up with your own best solutions to help yourself.

Sessions are held weekly at the Tashi Centre in Dursley and last for 50 minutes.  They are usually scheduled for the same day and time each week if possible.  It can be a good idea to attend up to six sessions initially and we will regularly review how the counselling is going for you.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred). Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA). Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision. Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training. All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).
