About me
Hi, I’m Milo. I know you have a story to tell. Is it too dark, painful or unfair? Is it the story you want it to be? I believe we all exist within stories. Stories we’re told about ourselves and stories we tell ourselves: about how we do, and should, act; about what our role is within our family; our relationships; our society; and about why we behave in certain ways. I will offer you empathy, connection, and wit to help you to question and examine your story: your thoughts, beliefs, feelings, and actions. I believe only you can decide whether, and how, to change your narrative and make choices that will help you to create a story in which you are comfortable.
I work with adults (18+) and I work with people as a whole. That means I’ll gently push you to explore all the sides of your story. I will view you as an entire person. I won’t view you as just a problem or a diagnosis, although I do recognise how important these facets of ourselves can be.
For more information on how I work, have a look at my website (linked above, just to the right of my picture).
I offer sessions in-person and online, but please note that I work from a house in Craiglockhart which has stairs, both to the house and to the room I work from and I am currently unable to offer a more accessible in person location.
Training, qualifications & experience
I have a post-graduate diploma in Counselling from the University of Edinburgh, as well as a COSCA certificate in counselling skills. As a member of the BACP, I have a responsibility to engage in continued professional development.
Before becoming a counsellor I achieved a first class BsC in Cognitive Science from the University of Edinburgh, then worked for many years for a charity which helps connect older people (60+) through technology, a role which often focussed more on the connection than it did on the technology (especially during covid).
Member organisations
BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred). Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA). Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision. Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training. All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.
Accredited register membership
The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).
This therapist has indicated that they belong to an Accredited Register.
