About me
Hello, I’m Michaela. I’m a fully qualified and experienced counsellor and the owner of Camellia Counselling in Southend on Sea, Essex.
At Camellia Counselling, you will be welcomed to a compassionate and safe environment where you will have space to explore and express your thoughts, experiences and feelings. Through a connection with your counsellor, you will be supported through this process without judgement or being told what to do, but you may sometimes be given suggestions or work towards goals if that is helpful for you. I am trained in a range of different counselling approaches and this allows me to work flexibly in a way that you feel works best for you.
Counselling sessions can be offered in-person, online, or by telephone so you can access your counselling in the way you find most comfortable. I also have a range of affordable appointment options as I do not believe that finances should be a barrier to you accessing counselling.
So if you are struggling, need support, or feeling overwhelmed for any reason, please do get in touch or have a look at my website to see if I could be the right counsellor for you.
Training, qualifications & experience
After a long career in education, I took a counselling skills course back in 2014 to help me become a better educator. Little did I know what a lifechanging course that would be as it set me on a path towards a fulfilling and joyful counselling career. Since completing my counselling qualifications, I have worked with a range of charities and schools, built my private counselling practice, and also enjoy providing mental health mentoring for students, and teaching counselling students at Training by Liberty in Rochford, Essex.
I am an integrative counsellor, and this means that I have trained in a range of different therapeutic approaches including Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Transactional Analysis (TA) and Person-Centred Therapy. This allows me to work flexibly, putting your unique personality, experiences, beliefs, and feelings at the heart of your counselling. My work is also trauma-informed, meaning that I recognise and respond to the impact that trauma may have had in your life. Most importantly, however, I always work to create a trusting, respectful and genuine relationship to help you feel safe and empowered.
Member organisations
BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred). Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA). Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision. Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training. All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.
Accredited register membership
The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).
This therapist has indicated that they belong to an Accredited Register.
