About me

I’m Mike Mainwaring, I have worked with children and young people and adults for over 30 years specialising in substance misuse, mental health, self-harm, Care Experienced people, sexuality and gender. I help people with identity, sexuality and gender, anxiety and finding meaning in their lives.  I am a practicing artist and a trained Art Psychotherapist. I use a variety of art materials in my work from nature based materials, clay, paint and other media.  I qualified in 2024. I am gay, a trans ally and Cis gendered. I love to garden, use herbs for medicine and read poetry.  

Training, qualifications & experience

The therapeutic approach I use is person-centred, I am non-directive and am led by the client. I have worked with LGBT young people using art therapy to explore issues around gender, sexuality, identity, self-harm, suicidal thoughts an d eating disorders. I have worked with women in groups around issues of domestic abuse.

The HCPC are an independent, UK-wide health regulator. They set standards of professional training, performance and conduct for 16 professions.
