About me
Hello,
First off I want to thank you for stopping by and taking the time to look at my profile. I am so glad that you are here. I am Melissa or Mel as some folks call me. I know going to therapy can be a little scary (okay a lot scary) and it can take a lot of energy to reach out. If you're nervous and feeling a little worried about opening up to a stranger. I totally get it. Getting help is really brave and I hope you recognize the level of courage it takes to even be reading this. I pride myself on creating a warm and comforting environment for every client I work with. I have worked with so many amazing women in my 10 years of being a therapist and it is truly my life's work and my purpose.
I am heart centered and this shows up in everything I do. No cold informal detached services around here. I am all about that warmth, connection, and empowerment. If you are struggling right now. I want you to know that whatever you are going through, you don’t have to face it alone. I love seeing women living their best lives. I aspire to support women in all aspects of their life journey. Regardless of where you are at in your life right now, I will meet you there. I believe that you are the expert on your life and my role is to be a warm and compassionate guide helping you find your own power and heal yourself.
I specialize in counselling women and girls. I do a lot of work around anxiety, depression, disordered eating and low self-esteem. I also work with various women’s issues such as womb-based trauma. Which includes sexual assault/abuse, miscarriages, PCOS, infertility, endometriosis, PMS, PMDD. I work with a lot of different issues so please reach out and we can determine if we are a good fit for each other.
I am from America where I originally trained as a psychotherapist, now I happily reside in Scotland. When I am not doing counselling related things I am usually hill walking, eating takeaways or attempting to keep my plants alive.
* I want to add that it is normal for finding a therapist that you connect with to take time, I offer a free consultation with no obligations or strings attached. More of a casual chat over a cuppa.
Please keep reading below, as you will find the qualification bits. Being qualified and highly trained is very important to me. I hold myself to a very high professional standard.
Training, qualifications & experience
I have been working as an adult and child psychotherapist for over 10 years. I am a holistic counsellor meaning that I pull from multiple theories and I strongly believe in the mind-body connection and will often incorporate (only if you are comfortable) body-based healing modalities such as meditation, breathe work, and EFT/tapping. I have my bachelor’s degree in human behaviour, my master’s degree in counselling/psychotherapy and I am a Level 2 EFT practitioner. I also have my level I certificate in Reality Therapy. I have been trained in play therapy, expressive arts, sand tray therapy, group therapy, motivational interviewing, anxiety treatments, and stress management. I have also recently finished my qualification as a naturopathic nutritionist.
Member organisations

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred). Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA). Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision. Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training. All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.
