About me

Hello, my name is Maxine and I offer a holistic approach to counselling. The environment I like to work in is warm, trusting and supportive in a private and safe place which helps and supports individuals who are struggling with any difficulties, dilemmas, preoccupations or obstacles to happiness.

I am an experienced counsellor and I work integratively, which means I utilise a whole host of different therapies to creatively support clients to meet their individual needs/wants. Furthermore, the warm and open environment I work in provides an opportunity to talk in confidence. I will fully support you and together we can explore what is happening for you at the moment, find a way to move forward and help you live a happier life, where you feel empowered to manage life's 'ups and downs'.

Additionally, I have valuable experience, knowledge and understanding of working with children, young people, adults and couples.

Experience

I work full-time as a counsellor and I am experienced working with and supporting clients through different and diverse issues. I believe in a therapeutic relationship, and working collaboratively, which involves us developing a connection, identifying your goals, areas for growth and development in order to live a more fulfilling life.

Also, I am currently working with an independent charity providing services for people seeking mental health advice and support. Furthermore, I have been successfully working together with the staff, children and young people of a local charity to raise their awareness of mindfulness and how to implement practices and techniques into their everyday lives. Additionally, I have been working with a local school to introduce the concept of mindfulness and techniques to Y6 pupils to help alleviate the stresses of the impending SATs.

I have practised as a Course Leader, Lecturer and Internal/External Verifier for many years teaching a wide range of courses and my core area of expertise was Counselling and Complementary Therapies.

I believe that my earlier experiences of working as a Complementary Therapist have undoubtedly had an impact on my 'way of being' and enabled me to be a truly Humanistic Counsellor.

I trained as a Couples Counsellor through Jesmond Therapy Centre and work with couples as well as bringing my couples counselling knowledge to my individual work.

Member organisations

BACP

British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy

BACP is one of the UK’s largest professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy. Therapists registered with the Association fall into a number of different membership categories such as Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP and Registered Member MBACP (Accred), each standing for different levels of training and experience. MBACP (Accred) and MBACP (Snr Accred) members have achieved a substantial level of training and experience approved by the Association.

Registered members can be found on the BACP Register, which was the first register to achieve Accredited Voluntary Register status issued by the Professional Standards Authority. Individual Members will have completed an appropriate counselling and/or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but will not appear on the BACP Register until they've progressed to Registered Member MBACP status.

All members are bound by a Code of Ethics & Practice and a Complaints Procedure. Accredited by the Professional Standards Authority.

Further information

I feel that when choosing a therapist it is very important that you choose the one that you feel comfortable with. The initial consultation will provide us with an opportunity to chat, get to know each other a little, experience the environment I work in and how I like to work.

If you feel that this would appeal to you, contact me and we will set up an initial introductory session.
