About me

Imagine having a conversation with someone in which you can talk about your deepest insecurities, anxiety and fears without fear of being judged by them, without fear of burdening them and without fear of worrying them. Imagine that person being solely focused on you and your issues rather than someone just waiting for an opportunity to talk about their stuff. This is a very rare situation in life but one that is offered by good counselling.

That is what I offer. A safe space for you to talk about those thoughts and feelings. An opportunity to bring those thoughts and feelings into the light, to explore and question them, to recognise their hold over you and the opportunity to discover how they influence your behaviour.

Understanding how the past influences our thoughts, feelings and behaviour in the present brings a measure of awareness and control that can lead to positive change in the relationships we have with others and the relationship we have with ourselves.

Sometimes positive change means accepting all parts of ourselves, even those parts we want to deny, and being as kind, understanding and forgiving to ourselves as we are of others.

I am not the expert on you, you are. This means that I will not lead you or interpret what you tell me. I believe that the answers we seek are within us already and what we all need at times is help in exploring the many, often conflicting, thoughts and feelings we experience every day in order to discover what really drives us and how this influences our behaviour. My aim is to create an environment in which you feel safe and comfortable and able to talk about anything you wish to.

I am an integrative, relational therapist. Being an integrative therapist means that I do not subscribe to one theory of counselling but instead have a grounding in several different theories. This means I can utilise whichever theory, or combination of theories, that I believe may be of use to you.

Being a relational therapist means that I believe that the therapeutic relationship between you and I is the most important factor in our work together. If the relationship has strong foundations built on empathy, understanding, trust and honesty then it will provide the most significant contribution to achieving a positive outcome.

Short and longer term therapy is available. Sessions are online or by telephone and can be weekly or fortnightly. Each session is 50 minutes long. Fees are paid weekly by bank transfer. Each session costs £40. Concessionary rates are available.

I offer a free 20 minute consultation before you commit to any paid sessions.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred). Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA). Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision. Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training. All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy
Accredited Register Scheme

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

This therapist has indicated that they belong to an Accredited Register.
