About me

Welcome, my name is Matthew Heatley-Swaine and I am an accredited Cognitive Behavioural Therapist (CBT) and supervisor based in Herne Bay, East Kent. I am able to work with you remotely (video call) so you can refer yourself despite where you live.

I have many years of experience helping people to live a more fulfilled life and become less limited by their anxiety, worry and stress. I specialize in treating anxiety, low self-esteem, work related burnout and trauma. I also have a particular interest in men’s mental health, breaking down the barriers for men seeking help and addressing difficult emotions. I offer assessment and treatment for a wide range of mental health problems to people over the age of 16.

If you are feeling low in mood, depressed, anxious, stressed or overwhelmed, I can support you in reducing your distress and work towards making meaningful changes in your life. I predominately use CBT but with a blend of several other therapy models.

CBT is a talking therapy which can help you change unhelpful patterns of thinking and behaving. By understanding what maintains your difficulties, we will aim to address unhelpful cycles, leaving you feeling less distressed and more confident in managing in your own time once therapy ends.

As everyone is entirely individual, therapy will be tailored to your needs, pace and circumstances. If you are struggling with your mental health and would like a safe, warm and compassionate place to explore and improve your difficulties, I am here to help.

Training, qualifications & experience

I hold the following qualifications and am fully accredited with the BABCP, meaning that I have completed extensive training to the required standards. I maintain my accreditation by attending regular CPD (Continued Professional Development) and my own clinical supervision.

Psychology BSc – Canterbury Christ Church University

Post Graduate Diploma in High Intensity Cognitive Behavioural Therapy – Canterbury Christ Church University
