About me

I’m Matilda and I am a BACP registered psychotherapist and counsellor working in the Forth Valley, just south of the Loch Lomond and Trossachs national park in Scotland.

I have a therapy studio here in the foothills of the Campsie Fells where we can meet to talk, and I also see clients online.

Life is rarely easy, even if we look like we’re coping. It’s hard to trust our gut, to say no, and to know what we want from life, others and ourselves. There is so much pressure to do and be a particular type of person – the perfect mother, daughter, wife and partner,  that it’s easy to lose who we really are in the process. Sometimes it’s hard to keep up and it can feel like an uphill battle just to stay still. We are often unheard and unseen by the people around us, who have a narrative or image of us that bears no resemblance to what we see in the mirror or know in our hearts. Therapy can help strip away the noise and help you get in touch with who you really are, what you really want and why, so you can start living the best life for you.

I have extensive experience working with trauma, particularly around sexual and domestic violence, including coercive control and adverse childhood experiences of adult survivors. If this is your experience, this space is here for you with no expectations of what you should do, how you should be or what we should talk about. This is your space to do with what you want.

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred). Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA). Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision. Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training. All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.
