About me
Hello, I am Maryna (Marina).
I am a qualified Integrative Counsellor, which means I draw on a range of therapeutic approaches, including Emotion-Focused Therapy, Compassion-Focused Therapy, aspects of Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), and Attachment Theory, tailoring each session to your individual needs. At the heart of my practice is a Person-Centred approach. I believe that you have the capacity for growth and that many answers you seek already exist within you. My role is to support you in discovering them at your own pace.
Building a trusting therapeutic relationship is central to my work. I believe that feeling safe, heard, and accepted creates the foundation for exploring even the most difficult experiences. You will have the full autonomy over what you choose to bring to each session, while I provide a confidential, warm, and non-judgemental space in which you can explore your thoughts, feelings, and challenges.
Whether you are experiencing anxiety, low mood, feeling stuck, or navigating a difficult period in your life, I will work alongside you to understand what is happening and support you in finding a way forward. I will support you in gaining a greater insight into your emotions and experiences, helping you understand why you think, behave, and react the way you do.
Having moved countries myself, I understand the challenges of adopting to a new culture, a different way of life, and a sense of uncertainty that can come with major life transitions. Do you feel out of place? Are you struggling to find your footing in unfamiliar circumstances? Do you sometimes feel caught between two worlds? These are experiences I can genuinely relate to.
I have also experienced loss, periods of disconnection from myself, and times when I felt uncertain about my direction in life. These experiences have taught me that life can be difficult and , at times, overwhelming. They have also shown me that you don't have to face those struggles alone. Finding the right person to talk to- someone who offers safety, understanding, and trust- can make a significant difference.
If you feel that I might be the right therapist for you, I would be pleased to hear from you.
I understand that starting therapy can feel daunting, but by reading this profile, you already have taken the first step.
Training, qualifications & experience
I am a qualified, BACP registered Counsellor. I also have a Diploma in Adult Nursing.
I have worked as a Healthcare professional for over 20 years, during which I witnessed first-hand the close connection between mental and physical health. I have seen how emotional distress can manifest as physical symptoms and how a person's mental and emotional wellbeing can significantly influence their recovery from physical illness. Observing the impact that neglecting mental health can have on people's lives inspired me to support others in improving their emotional wellbeing.
One of the most rewarding aspects of my work is seeing clients develop a deeper understanding of themselves, build self-belief, and discover the inner strength needed to create meaningful and lasting changes in their lives.
I have experience in supporting clients with wide range of issues: anxiety, depression, grief and loss, overwhelm, life transitions and relationship difficulties. I have a particular interest in Eating Disorders. I work in Neurodiversity-affirming way and have experience of working with Autistic clients and clients with ADHD. I am a proud ally of the LGBTQIA+community. I have over 2 years experience of working with the Talk To The Rainbow, organisation that provides counselling and support to LGBTQIA+ individuals.
I am committed to both personal and professional development. To insure I provide the highest standards of practice, I attend regular supervision, engage in ongoing professional development (CPD), and continue to undertake my own personal therapy.
Member organisations
BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred). Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA). Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision. Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training. All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.
Accredited register membership
The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).
This therapist has indicated that they belong to an Accredited Register.
