About me

Hi, I'm Mary.  I understand how difficult it is to find a therapist to suit your needs when there are so many doing such good work.  I like to keep things simple and clear so you can find what you are looking for.

Anxiety and depression are horrible feelings; they can impact all areas of your life. They can be caused by bereavement, job loss, family and relationship problems, or sometimes, seemingly out of the blue. It can feel like there is no escape. I've been where you are (still find myself there on occasion) and know how difficult it can be when things get too much.

I have personal experience of intrusive thoughts, health anxiety, which I feel gives me a solid understanding of what you might be going through and how it can be overcome.

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred). Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA). Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision. Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training. All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

Further information

I work as an integrative counsellor with a person-centred foundation, offering a collaborative and supportive space for people experiencing anxiety, OCD, and intrusive thoughts. My aim is to help clients relate differently to difficult thoughts and feelings, with less fear, shame, and struggle.

My understanding of OCD is informed by contemporary cognitive and behavioural models, alongside acceptance-based approaches. Where appropriate, I draw on psychoeducation and CBT-informed principles, including exposure and response prevention (ERP) concepts, to explore patterns such as avoidance, reassurance seeking, and rumination. This work is always tailored to the individual and developed collaboratively rather than using a fixed protocol.

I work within my scope of practice and remain attentive to ethical boundaries and client needs. I engage in regular supervision and reflective practice to ensure my work is appropriate, evidence-informed, and responsive to each person’s unique experience.
