About me
Hi, I’m Martha - in this profile I briefly outline my approach and experience as a counsellor. If you would like to know more or want to discuss what I can offer in more detail, please do get in touch.
I believe we all find life challenging at one time or another. We all experience relationships and life events that affect how we feel about ourselves, the world around us and our place in that world. By making sense of difficult thoughts, feelings and stuck patterns of behaviour I believe we can start to see how we’d like things to be different and how to move towards change. This is where counselling can help. Together we will create a space where you feel supported to explore whatever you need, to gain insights that it might be hard to reach alone. What this looks like will be unique to you as will the reasons why you are seeking help.
I am an integrative therapeutic counsellor providing support to individuals (18yrs+). I have an understanding of life’s challenges through my own lived experience. I work from a calm and comfortable therapy room in my home in Princes Risborough and at a central location in Aylesbury. I also offer sessions on-line. My approach is relational, with your needs and concerns always at the centre of our time together. I work collaboratively, seeking to build a genuine, open and honest connection with you, one in which you feel understood, cared for and gently challenged to find your way forwards. I might offer a new perspective on your experiences, but I won’t give you advice or tell you what to do.
I work with people around anxiety, depression, loss and low self-esteem. I am interested in family dynamics and relationship issues. I also have experience of working with trauma, particularly historic or recent/current sexual abuse, sexual assault and domestic abuse. There are many other reasons people come for counselling, or you may be uncertain what the problem is, simply feeling that something is not quite right. Whatever it is that brings you, I offer ethical and professional support and I believe that therapy can make a difference.

Experience

I am a registered member of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP), and am committed to working within its ethical framework.
Member organisations
BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred). Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA). Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision. Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training. All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.
Accredited register membership
The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).
This therapist has indicated that they belong to an Accredited Register.
