About me

My first career was in writing software. My second career was in startups (Spill). I’ve been working in the mental health space for over 7 years and I’ve been in clinical practice for over 5 years. In my work, I draw on scientific psychology as well as philosophy, literature, art.

Good mental health is about knowing who you are as a human being—and then being that person with flair and panache.

Focus
I particularly focus on working with anxiety, ADHD, loss, and the various challenges in building good relationships with ourselves and others.
 > self-acceptance (shame, impostor syndrome, low self-confidence)
 > coping with chronic conditions (especially anxiety, ADHD)
 > coping with grief
 > acceptance & forgiveness, moving on
 > coping with the loss of a relationship (breaking up, falling out)
 > coping with change (moving, changing jobs, unemployment)
 > coping with major life events (parenthood, retirement, illness)

Approach
Therapy is about having a safe, confidential, neutral space where you can make sense of what you're thinking and feeling, what you need and want, what is important and what you can let go of.

In our sessions, I'd mostly ask clarifying questions, so by helping me understand your experience, you come to understand that experience in new ways yourself. I can offer relevant insights from philosophy and scientific psychology, as well as my own perspective. Now and then, I might suggest something to read in your own time. We'd explore questions of values and meaning and talk about different ways of being in the world. We don't have to talk about childhood unless it's relevant. (It often is.)

Free first session, in person (Shoreditch/Hackney) or online.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred). Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA). Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision. Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training. All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

Accredited register membership

British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy
Accredited Register Scheme

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).
