Liz Mackenzie MBACP (ACCRED)Relationship Counsellor, Dip CBT

About us

Here at Manor House Therapies, our aim is to offer you a calm confidential space where you can unpack and explore the difficulties and distress that you are going through at your own pace, while being supported, heard and validated by a trained professional.

My name is Liz Mackenzie, and I am extremely excited to be working with this new project.
I can offer you support through the difficult times and struggles that can come about at any stage of your journey through your adult life.
I will work with you in a way that combines the skills and theories of my CBT training with the more Psychodynamic and Relational approaches of my Couples Counsellor training.

Relationships are one of my greatest passions as we are all born into them, whether we like it or not.  The quality of these early experiences hugely impacts on how we relate to people in our present lives.  This is true of not only romantic relationships, but also friendship, work and social connections.  By helping you understand this mechanism, I can support you in improving all your relationships, including the one you have with yourself.
I have many years of experience working with people who are suffering from the effects of Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACEs) including addiction issues, abuse, neglect, violence, suicide of family member, bullying and trauma.   ACEs can lead to huge difficulties in adulthood including chronic anxiety and depression, attachment insecurity low self-esteem and relationship issues.

I also have a wealth of experience in helping couples and individuals who have diagnosed and undiagnosed neurodiverse conditions such as ADHD and autism to live the most fulfilled lives that they possibly can. I am an LGBTQIA+ affirmative practitioner.

Couples Counselling
I am a qualified Couples Counsellor who supports all types of couples with management of their relationship issues. Whether you want to stay together, think you need to break up, have had an affair, feel stuck, need to grow, or have simply fallen into a boring routine with each other, I am happy to work with you.
How do you maintain the health of your relationship and help it to grow?
Love on its own is not enough. One of the most important things which I can help you with is developing your skills in communication and negotiation, so that you can understand each other, and offer each other more of what you need.
Before you got together with your partner or spouse, it is likely that you had very different life experiences which shaped you differently. Therefore, it is unrealistic to expect to agree on everything.
I will help you to understand the unhelpful patterns of communication, thinking and behaviour which you get trapped in which are often at the root of your anger, distress or distancing.

Registered / Accredited

Being registered/accredited with a professional body means an individual must have achieved a substantial level of training and experience approved by their member organisation.

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred). Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA). Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision. Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training. All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

We have verified that at least one professional at this organisation is registered with the relevant professional body.
