About me

Hi, thank you for taking the time to look at my details. Life can be difficult at times for all of us and if you’re reading this, my guess is that you’re struggling with something at the moment. I understand that beginning this journey may not always be easy and the first step can often be the most difficult. I will offer you support and empathy in a warm, friendly and caring environment. Well done for taking that first step and thank you for looking at my details.

I will work with you to explore your feelings and how your experiences shape your thoughts and actions. I hope you will gain a better understanding of what makes you, you. I will help you to find ways to reach your own solutions and relief from your distress and emotional discomfort. There may also be times when I could simply be that listening, non judgemental, confidential ear that you just don't have elsewhere.

I have over 20 years experience in counselling and have helped and supported many people over the years with various difficulties such as:

  • Addictions – drugs, alcohol, gambling, etc
  • Abuse - sexual, physical and emotional
  • Relationship issues - break-downs, betrayals, affairs, separation and divorce
  • Depression, self-harm and suicidal thoughts
  • Low self-esteem and low self-confidence
  • Family issues
  • Sexual identity
  • Crisis management – for those times when you feel everything is crashing down on you

I offer an initial assessment during which time we will discuss your needs and decide if we think we can work together (if I am unable to help, I will point you in the right direction). I understand it is often difficult to take that first step and if you are unsure whether you want or need counselling please contact me for a no-obligation discussion. Please leave details if the phone is on answer phone. I aim to make things as easy and as relaxed as possible. I look forward to listening.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy
Accredited Register Scheme

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

This therapist has indicated that they belong to an Accredited Register.

Further information

What is counselling & psychotherapy?

Counselling and psychotherapy are basically the same - treatment and support for people who are experiencing emotional and/or mental health problems. Often called "talking therapies" as they rely on treatment through psychological means and not by medical interventions. Therapy enables people to process feelings and look at them from different perspectives. During your counselling sessions, you’ll be encouraged to express your feelings and emotions. By discussing your concerns with you, I can help you gain a better understanding of your feelings and thought processes, as well as identifying ways of finding your own solutions to problems. It can be very empowering to share your worries and fears with someone who acknowledges your feelings and is able to help you reach a positive solution. I look forward to listening.
