About me
Hello, I’m Madeleine, an Integrative Psychotherapeutic Counsellor, with over 16 years’ experience working in Mental Health, offering short term and open-ended sessions online or from my counselling room in central Ipswich.
Life can bring numerous challenges, and be messy and confusing at times. Seeking counselling support to navigate these challenges involves finding someone who is a good fit for you.
I see counselling as a joint venture, in which I bring my training, experience and humanity, to work in partnership with you towards your hopes for change. I draw on my previous experience as a Mental Health Nurse supporting people through times of intense distress, alongside my warmth, compassion and acceptance of your whole self.
My approach integrates various schools of counselling theory, bringing to the fore what is most useful for you at any one time, including:
Person Centred - your needs and processes are at the centre of our work. We will work towards what you are looking for, at your pace.
Psychodynamic - exploring and recognising the way formative experiences have shaped your current ways of being and relating.
Existential - acknowledging and working with questions about life, death and meaning. Why am I here and what’s the point?
Trauma informed - recognising that traumatic experiences are held in the body and mind in particular ways, ensuring we work together to create safety before processing and integrating these.
Relational - drawing on the way we impact each other to bring insight and change.
Creative - harnessing the power of creativity, whether that be through imagination, drawing, words or use of sand trays to express your inner world.
If you would like to have a chat to see how we could work together, please get in touch by email or phone, and we can arrange a free 15 minute consultation.

Member organisations
school Registered / Accredited
Being registered/accredited with a professional body means an individual must have achieved a substantial level of training and experience approved by their member organisation.
The UK Council for Psychotherapy (UKCP) is a leading professional body for the education, training and regulation of psychotherapists and psychotherapeutic counsellors. Its register is accredited by the government's Professional Standards Authority.
As part of its commitment to protect the public, it works to improve access to psychotherapy, to support and disseminate research, to improve standards and to respond effectively to complaints against its members.
UKCP standards cover the range of different psychotherapies. Registration is obtained by training or accrediting with one of its member organisations, or by holding a European Certificate in Psychotherapy. Accredited by the Professional Standards Authority.
Accredited register membership
The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).
This therapist has indicated that they belong to an Accredited Register.
